so i finally know how to put sounds in my garmin 760 this may sound like a stupid question but how does it work when i pass by a starbucks it will know i'm passing one?

Only if
You have setup the POI with an alert and only if the "Starbucks" is within a certain distance of your route.

Use the "Search" function at the top of the page and type "alerts" (without the quotes) and what ye seek...ye shall find...
