nuvi 350 v5.60 update

Nuvi 300/350 (WebUpdater) software version 5.60 just showed up today.

Changes made from version 5.50 to 5.60:
*Fixed issue where fleet management interface messages can get stuck in the outbox
*Improve handling of the situation where overlapping map data is present on the device.

Still didn't fix the linebreak problem. Garmin really got on top of that ... they've known about the problem over a year and a half, still nothing done!

I don't see linebreak handling as a problem.

If by "line break" problem, you're referring to Garmin's choice to ignore new lines within a POI's comment, then I think Garmin is right to ignore them. Consider the design alternative...
if new lines weren't ignored, then accidentally forgetting a close quote around a comment field would result in subsequent POI(s) being swallowed up as if they were part of that comment. The current design is the lesser of two evils in that it assures all POIs are loaded, and only requires a simple HTML tag as a new line substitute.

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on these Garmin firmware updates!

By Linebreak ....

By linebreaks, I mean where nuvi 350/360 require <br> in place the standard linebreak that almost all other Garmins use.

When you stated "forgetting a close quote around a comment field would result in subsequent POI(s) being swallowed up as if they were part of that comment", that's one error 'POI Verifier' will find. Where would we be if Garmin (and all software producers) would not include options which would display incorrectly whenever some user goofed on his POI? Gotta put the blame where it belongs ... on the goofer!

I stand corrected.

FYI: I updated my 350 hoping to resolve a chronic problem I'm having with home-made maps. However, I can not perceive any change to my nüvi by this Garmin update. The good news is it did no harm.

I still believe I can make a persuasive argument why treating an end-of-line as an end of record indicator rather than a formatting character is a better design for a typical GPS user. (Readers of poi-factory are not typical as they are more tech savy.)

But the joke is on me as Garmin has it wrong on both counts. If a closing quote is missing, the data for the next POI becomes part of the first POI's comment field. Yikes! And as you already observed, they still don't use the carriage return to format anything.

Kind of hard to add

Kind of hard to enable a feature like instantfix when the hardware does have instantfix.

Thanks. Gamin does not...

... post the news for the update in their list any more. I guess nuvi 350 is too old, but I think their organization sucks. They could have organized this list in much better way -- simply group it by model family.

Luckily some people check from time to time and post the news here.

Thanks again!

Nuvi 350 FW update 5.60

New update available. i guess they'll never add instantfix to the older nuvis.

Because Garmin can't add

Because Garmin can't add intantfix unless the GPS chipset is replaced with a new one that supports instantfix!
