New Car... Sync Navagation vs. Garmin
My Saturn died... New car is Ford Escape....
it has Nav package....
Up till today, spent time programming garage door opener, and storing CD's on hard drive.... This morning wanted to store Home location in Nav Package....
Thinking that: "I know Garmin..... This will be easy"....
No it isn't.... I'll try again tomorrow...

Replacement for Garmin nuvi 255W?
i have a Garmin nuvi 255W. I want to upgrade it to a GPS that doesn't have a charge for street map updates. Since Garmin is trying to rip me off for ninety dollars for one map update, I have no specific loyalty to Garmin. Any ideas?

Garmin Warranty Repair Turn Around Time
I have a Garmin Nuvi which I've been approved to send in for warranty repair. It is a pixel display related issue and not anything functionally wrong with the unit's software or firmware.
My question is though, what kind of turn around time can I expect with Garmin? Can anyone here on this forum give me a general idea of how long it may take for Garmin to fix and send it back to me?

nuvi 13xx and 14xx series (GCD File) software version 5.20
Changes made from version 5.10 to 5.20:
Made several map-drawing improvements.
Fixed several FMI-related issues.
Fixed an error that caused the wrong keyboard to display for certain regions.
Fixed an error that caused audio and Bluetooth features to not function unless the unit was restarted.

Editing POI files.
I just downloaded Costco POI's and I found some mistakes in it. I did some checking from Costco's website and found several gas stastions not listed in the POI. How can I edit my csv POI file to correct the mistakes? I use openoffice to view the POI's.

ECOROUTE HD
Has anyone purchased and used Garmin's ecoRoute HD which hooks up to your cars engine computer and send info to certain Garmin units with bluetooth. It will read engine codes to what your driving habits are. It is another version of what another thread about insurance companies is talking about but does much more.

Fishing On Garmin
I just joined this forum although I've been exploring it as a guest for a while. My focus is fishing and I am starting a company selling Garmin GPI Custom POI's for fishermen in Pennsylvania with some success.
Does anyone know of any other fishing specific POI's anywhere in the US covering large areas?

TTS voices issue
I've got a Nuvi 880 which I have been very happy with. It just started a new trick. When I turned it on last month, it began speaking in Afrikaans rather than the usual English. I pulled over and looked and English wasn't available. Fortunately was able to select French which I understand well enough to get to my destination.

Using my Garmin 3760, WebUpdater offered the following update -

Why didn't I get the pois I wanted
I found an interesting tid bit on my 1490T. I wanted to see motels past a certain city on my current route. I had programmed the city I planned to stop at and requested hotels near on my current route. I only got a few hotel/motel listings. On a thought I checked how far the city I wanted to stop near was from my current location.

I learned how to... (replaced the recalculating message)
...get my wife's Garmin to take the long way home!
No, I'm not crazy...well...any less crazy *grins*
My wife loves the Jack voice and so thanks to the TTS voice editor program, I changed "recalculating" to "You're not listening to me Kathy! I thought it was only men who didn't stop for directions. Let's go this way"

Adding Maps to Garmin Nuvi
I thought there was a thread somewhere on this site regarding how to add maps to your Garmin, but cannot find it. I have downloaded a map file (.img) for use in Batam, Indonesia, where I am going to visit this coming June. The author's instructions were to copy the file to the garmin directory, but this doesn't cause the map to be displayed in my unit.

firm ware 4.90 reset IS possible on Nuvi 760
i was told by Garmin that once you do an update in firmware you cannot revert back to previous version. THAT IS NOT A TRUE STATEMENT
I did a reverse firm ware from 4.90 TO 4.80 on my NUVI 760
because of continuous locking up problems { approx 10 in 30 minutes}

voice directions
I have a 260W. If I do not put it in the mount it works fine. If I do put it in the mount it may work for a while but soon the voice will not work. If I then take it out of the mount the voice comes back.
Any ideas on this?
