custom POI's

I recently downloaded the complete listing of the Harley-Davidson dealerships in the United States along w/ the HD icon & the voice prompt indicating I'm approaching a dealership. I dumped them into my Garmin Nuvi 760 & found the HD dealership listing under the custom POI's. My question is: As I'm traveling throughout the country & approach Harley dealers, will the GPS indicate "upcoming" dealerships along w/ the icon OR will I have to navigate to them individually?

You can add a proximity

You can add a proximity alert to the file through POI Loader that will sound when you approach a dealership. By default however, the GPS won't alert you to the presence of dealerships.

proximity alert

I'm new to this site & loading custom POI's onto my GPS. Can you breifly explain how to load the proximity alert for the above post? Thank you.

That should help you out a lot better than the link that was previously here. What it doesn't really mention is that to set proximity alerts on files like the Harley Davidson POI file, you need to run POI Loader in MANUAL mode. The screen that shows up on manual mode allows you to set proximity alerts for the entire file.

Alerts

The Harley-Davidson file I found is a GPX file. If yours is a GPX then you can set each entry's alert individually or all at once. You can set it to alert you at almost any distance you like. If your file is a CSV file then you can set the alert using POILoader. If you don't set the alerts then, if you have the GPS display set for 300 ft or less, the icon should show at each location but you won't get a banner warning or an audible alert.
