Still old maps on Nüvi 760....

After downloading the newest lifetime map to Nüvi 760, I discovered I besides the new map still have a part of the previous loaded map (Map, Info: Europe, Nordics)!

The SD card is removed!!

I can't figure out how to remove it. Normally the new download remove present maps.

The GPS operates normal

.

Look for a file on the unit named GMAPSUPP.IMG.

Remove it from the device.

Do NOT touch any of the other .IMG files.

AND then reload the update?

Shouldn't need to

Shouldn't need to reload the update. As long as there is a large file called GMAPPROM.ING left on the 760 you will have the complete map file installed already.

It seems to be a little bit more complicated..

My fault: It seems to be a little bit more complicated. I did not tell that The Europe map is on the unit, US map (old map, v.8) on the SD!

Unit contains:
gmapbmap 5.8 mb
gmapprom 280 mb
gmapsupp 1.2 gb

SD contains:
gmapsupp 0.97 gb

If I rename units gmapsupp:
No update Europe map
Old Europe map OK
US map OK

AND if furthermore if I rename SD cards gmapsupp:
No update Europe map
Old Europe map OK
No Us map

My conclusion: The old Europe map may be present somewhere!

My problem is: Rename gmapsupp back to origin, will surely make all maps work, BUT which map of the European map is working?

Use GmapTool

Rather than guessing which map each file is, open the files with this program and check the information data:
http://www.anpo.republika.pl/download.html#gmaptool

Based on

Based on file sizes your Europe maps are on the Nuvi as:

gmapsupp 1.2 gb

For them to be available to you they must be named GMAPPROM.img

I'd suggest you MOVE the gmapprom 280MB file off the Nuvi to a folder on your computer. Then rename the gmapsupp 1.2gb file to gmapprom.img.

If all looks well you can delete the file that you MOVED to your computer.

ALSO LETS LEAVE THE SD CARD OUT OF YOUR NUVI UNTIL YOU HAVE THIS FIGURED OUT. It's just causing unneeded confusion right now.

Why don't you go into your NUVI 760 settings and select whichever maps you want to use. They should list both maps for you and you can actually deselect one.

You'r right but...

You'r right, but hate to have something only taking space on the unit!

That did it! No old map any more! Wonderful

AND, the US map on the card: Remove all files on the card, install maps with MapInstall??
Or leave the file as it is: gmapsupp?

Personally

Personally I just leave things the way they are. If the file on the SD card is named gmapsupp and it's your US maps then that's the right file name and probably the best place for them.

Thank you! I have been updating my maps on my Nuvi only to be nagged that I have an older version on my system. I will look for this file and remove it.
