I want to get a microSD card for my nuvi550. Does anyone know what is the maxium size of microSD card it can support.

Just bought a 1490T - this is my first Garmin GPS.

Have a couple of questions:

1. I live in a rural area - as I follow a route, the surrounding countryside background is white (except for a golf course, etc.) - is this normal? From looking at the screenshots in the manual, I would have expected a light pastel green.

I own the lifetime update stuff for my 885T, but I am unable to do the update for the new map -- just announced.

It takes so long to get to talk to Garmin, I hope someone knows how to get this update done.

DorkusNimrod mentioned this news buried in an unrelated message thread, so I'll thank him here and let you know that for those of you Garmin folks with a TTS American Jill voice, there's a new update (found with WebUpdater on the page after the firmware update) to version 2.60. I didn't think to write down the update log but think it was just for better pronunciation during routing.

Do you know why everytime when I run the webupdater, it always prompt me to update my Nuvi 1350T software to version 4.0 even though my Nuvi is already udpated to version 4.0 ?

I go ahead and click on updating it, but the next time I run webupdater it prompt me to update to 4.0 again.

I was under impression that each software update comes with its own index.
I did 3.90 coupla months ago. Few days back a new update became available in Garmin’s My Dashboard, which I did. When I went in “Tools > Settings > System > About” – it still displays software version 3.90

I would never belive it but I returned my 885 for service but I forgot to remove my 4gig SD card. And of course when I got the GPS returned NO card. I called Garmin they said your out of luck they don't returned them. I just received mail from garmin and there was a brand new PNY 4 Gig Card.
Looks like Garmin is back on my good side again.

I am pretty new to the forum and garmin. I have a 765T that I downloaded both Lancaster covered bridges and Pa covered bridges. How do I find them on mapsource and populate them to make a drive? I pulled all the info from the device to mapsource and saw my travels, and the custom route I had created. The POI's show up from the factory not my uploaded ones.....hope this makes sense?

Can you delete all the voice files in the nuvi 765T, except the one or 2 that i use?

I recently bought a Garmin Nuvi 1690 and I like it. I have downloaded POI's and Vehicle icons to my garmin but apparently I ran out of internal memory. I bought a 4 GB micro SD card just for this.

I am also trying to update the map and software for this unit. My concern here is I just got a message that there is no more space on the internal drive.

I was wondering if any of you have had any experience in handing down a older unit (680) to a friend or family member? In particular how do you take out the Lock and home location for the unit. And how to wipe out and transfer the Favorites file?

I want to make sure the unit is as 'clean' as possible for them so that none of my custom settings are in the unit?

I have a 1490T and am wondering if anyone has figured out how to get it out of the computer mode when attached with the USB cable to the computer. On my old 750 when you unplugged it and it started up if you reattached the USB cable it would go to the regular travel mode. I have tried this and the safely remove hardware mode on the computer to no avail.

I've been using the feature of Extra_POI_Editor on Custom POI gpx files to remove a "cmt" field when it is the same as the "desc" field. There's no reason to have the same thing repeated twice when I hit "More" when displaying a Custom POI.

how awesome would it be when we get an alert, a different animation happens.

ie if my custom vehicle is a cop car, the blue lights would turn on.

ie if my vehicle is a transformer, it transforms into vehicle/robot mode.. etc..

it'd be nice to have at least 3 different alert animations.

i know this is unnecessary.. but i just thought i share it.

what do you guys think?

Used Zumo 550 as basic route planner for 6k miles in Alaska last year. Trying to be more specific for our next 20k, so dwnld Harley Dealer POI.
My issue(s); original Mapsource poi has Harley dealers in category "shopping", subcat "apparel". Is there a way to change the Garmin POI category/subcat to "Harley"?
I added the icon and can make waypoints, but wanted to minimize duplicates.

How would one go about using GPS to alert you or better yet, reroute to avoid low clearance situations for a 12' tall RV?
The Garmin 465T is listed on their site as being truck friendly. I guess that'd cover it? It says it would route to avoid hazards? Think that'll work? Anyone have one?

how does one go about obtaining the latest rgn file? It appears that Garmin stopped releasing them, and only releases gcd files, or lets you use web update. For modding the firmware, though, I seem to need a rgn.

Does anyone know how to convert the gcd to rgn files?

Or can someone send me or post a 827 ver 6.40 firmware for a nuvi 255W?
