Custom Poi not shown during Bluetooth Usage

Greets All!!!! Great forum for Good quick info... I have a question on a 765T. Not sure if this has been asked before but I'm a little confused.. I recently set up my bluetooth phone without any problems. However, one of the options on the phone menu is points of interests then extras then custom pois under that it lists all catagories and all the Pois that I have downloaded off this site. My problem is when I touch one of these pois catagories like say "Arbys USA/Canada" or any of the others in the list I get No matches found... I know these POI seem to be there when I go the "Where to" then Points of Interest way they show up. Just when I try to go through the phone menus... I probably don't completely understand what I am doing here so any advice would be helpful... Thanks to all..

What format was the Custom POI file that you downloaded? (GPX or CSV)?

If it was a CSV, the phone numbers are not dialable.

If it was a GPX, was the file formatted correctly in order for the phone numbers to be dialable?

They were all in CSV format.. so why wouldn't they show up with name & address etc. wheither they are dialable or not???

GPX

MM is right that the file has to be a GPX before you can dial the phone number with Bluetooth. The question about why you can't see them is more complicated. Not having any real knowledge in this instance, could it be the bluetooth search is looking for the XML tag Phone which is not in a CSV?

Have to be dialable

Only those POI's with dialable phone numbers will show up in the Phone menu. For dialable phone numbers, you have to be using GPX format POI files.

Some of the GPX editors will automatically parse a CSV file and try to identify phone numbers. GeePeeEx Editor does a pretty good job with this.

Yes, not knowing all the ins and outs of XML, but basically, if the "phone app" is only going to be able to "see" numbers that are in the proper, dialable format. If they aren't in this format, the basically "don't exist" as far as the phone is concerned because they can't be dialed.

Guys & Gals you have hit a nerve...... Great info...
Tell me more about these programs that parse CSV files... I would really like to be able to dial all my custom pois on the fly.... Thanks all.. Will they work for the CSV poi files I dl from this site. Are they free? and How do I load on my garmin once parsed??

turboccc (one of our POI Factory members) has written an excellent program that will detect and process phone numbers in CSV files. You can download it for free from:
http://turboccc.wikispaces.com/Extra_POI_Editor

Save the converted POI files in GPX format, then use POI Loader to put them on your Garmin.

But to write out the process would be a little much for this forum. It's not difficult or truly complicated, but to detail the process into a tutorial is a little much.

Essentially you need to define your input file to EPE telling it how the information is laid out in the CSV and what to expect as delimiters. Once you do this, the conversion is pretty much automatic.

Open EPE, Select Options and then Preferences. Set the Editor to use Imperial/US (for miles and feet) and leave file read/save as Metric.

Set GPX Output to Same as Input, set a line break if needed, and finally decide if you want time stamps included or not.

Check all four boxes under the filter options, and finally decide if you want EPE to open automatically when you click on a GPX, OV2 (Tom-Tom) or MGLN format file.

That will get you started. You will need to play with the internal formats of the file writes in order to tailor what data is written as an output file.

Thanks I give what you

Thanks I give what you suggested a try but I just need quick and dirty.. convert csv to gpx and have it display phone numbers that I can dial under Custom Poi in the bluetooth phone menu... I doesn't seem like it would be that complicated... or is it???
BTW... My Garmin Poi loader gives me invalid errors for any GPX file I download staight off this site without any modifications. Anyone else having problems loading these ??

1. There's no "quick and dirty" for what you want to do.

2. Which file?

simple 4 column CSV?

If it is a simple 4 column CSV, I think you can just open it in EPE and it will extract the phone number.

If not, open the Preferences under the Options menu and make sure the Enable Phone Number Extraction is checked. Then, open the CSV again.

By default, CSV reading assumes 4 columns. You should not have much to configure.

I have not used EPE in a while... LOL! Hopefully, I gave you the right information... smile

grin Turbocc ..I tried EPE again and checked the box for extract the phone numbers saved it then used POI loader and this time it is working with my phone options like I would expect it should... Phone numbers are showing up under custom POI GREAT! GREAT! Thank you all who helped me with this problem... EPE looks like the way to go for mapping assistance.
Now.. I want to see if the custom routing will work. Like manually change the route on google maps to a way I always go save it as a gpx or favorite dl it to my 765 then see if it follows that path. So I'm guessing the Monuments.gpx file I dl to try got corrupted somehow.. Anyway it wouldn't load through the Garmin POI loader. One of the problems I see with the Garmin mapping is when you get close to your destination it really get lost some times especially in a new housing development... Thats why I want to try to force it to go my custom route.. Think it will work????
