Garmin talk

I finally decided, it was a tossup between the 3597 and the 2597 and the more I thought about it I decided I didn't need the extra features on the 3597. One of Garmin's tech support people I spoke to said for the money she thought the 2597 was a best buy.

Is it just me, or has Navteq or Garmin dropped the ball on quality control? It seems to me like for the last three updates that the information on the gps is constantly getting worse.

Just saw reference to a Nuvi 3592 which integrates GPS and Video Dash Cam. Looked really nice but it is only available in Singapore. Garmin told me no info available re its intro to the US market in the foreseeable future. Yet another mistake by garmin marketing, instead of capitalizing on the next big thing in auto accessories in 2014. Anybody have updated info?

I can load POIs complete with icon files to my garmin so long as the icon file has been created by an expert and downloaded from this site.
If I try and create my own icon, or modify a downloaded one, I just get an error message and the Garmin only displays a grey dot.

I have been out of touch for about 3 weeks and seen some comments about the 2013.30 map. I check garmin and my maps are updated with the recent 2013.20. So what is going on.

Does the large screen have the same degree of brightness and contrast as earlier models?>

Is there a way to move files from the internal memory to the SD card. The internal storage is full and the SD card is empty.

Well this is a first for me. I updated my 3490 to firmware v.8.10 and the maps to 2014.30 via Garmin Express (first time using it). I backed up all my favorites prior to updating via Basecamp. I wanted to cleanout some old ones so I erased all of them from the unit and went to restore them after the update from Basecamp.

Well I wonder if we have another Garmin software update fiasco, like the 750 updates that bricked so many GPS devices.

On my 2450LM, software update 3.60 caused the speed limit changing color to stop working. Garmin suggested a master reset.
Unit did not survive the reset and now will not boot up.

Anybody have any similar experiences?

I plan on going to CES 2014 (like I do every year). Last year I gave a fairly extensive review on the newer 3597 model. I'm curious to see if there is going to be another replacement this year. So far, nothing posted on Garmin's site. I think they usually announce new products a few days before so I'm looking forward to seeing if there is an updated model.

Does anyone know if the favorites on a Chrysler/Jeep 430N system can be downloaded to a flash drive?

I finally got the voice alert to work on my 2460, I had to revert back to sox 14.0.1, did not work with the later versions. Thanks to all who tried to help, had me going nuts

Garmin has released firmware update 4.00 for the nuvi 2xx7 and 2xx8 and nuvi 35x7 and 35x8 models.

Changes made from version 3.80 to 4.00:

Enabled the Voice Command feature for Argentina.
Improved calculation for long routes.
Improved highway shields in Norway and the United States.
Fixed several map display issues.
Fixed several route calculation and recalculation issues.

I have been looking at the 3597 and the 2597 and don't really need all of the bells and whistles the 3597 has, but I have a couple of concerns about the 2597. The 2597 has the same display resolution that my 855 has and I'm wondering if that would be objectionable with the 5" screen? If so I would consider staying with the smaller screen.

I flew to Florida last week and I took my NUVI2555LMT on the plane with me.

First off, I was pleased to see that I was able to get satellite lock, for a reasonable portion of the trip, once we got to the planes normal altitude.

I've noticed that the custom POI icons show up for a good many of the POI's I attempt to pull up; however, there are several that do not show the icon, but pull up as a specific restaurant or hotel. Is this an issue where the specific location in not listed in the text of the .csv or .gpx file? I haven't seen it pull up for any of my customs if I specify a custom poi from the category list.

I did some searching on the forum and turned up short. My apologies if this has been covered.

My new Garmin has this feature, and here in Florida no one goes the speed limit. You can't even be ticketed for going less than 5 over. I think it is a nice option, but I would like to set it at 10 over or turn it off.

Can this be done? My google searching suggests the answer is no.

Is there a way to import a GPX route file to the Garmin 2555LMT?

I tried moving one to the GPX directory in the Garmin,
but the Garmin didn't seem to know it was there?!?!
