I got my 350 in December of 2008 which was just a few years before USB 2 and a lot of years before USB 3. Like all Nuvi's did for a long time after the 350 was released, it uses USB 1.1

I think the Nuvi 350 was released in October of 2005 and definitely uses USB 1.1. My own Nuvi 660 was released in September 2006; it too uses USB 1.1 (slow as molasses).

I believe Garmin went to USB 2.0 with the release of the Nuvi 7XX series in August 2007, and is used on all Nuvis' since then.
No Nuvi that I'm aware of is capable of using USB 3.0 speeds. Since USB 3.0 is backwards compatible, plugging any Nuvi into a USB 3 port should work, but at a reduced speed.
It may take Garmin another 7 years to incorporate USB 3.0 into their GPS's.

I think my 760 is still USB 1.1
a bit of perspective though...
The nuvi 3xx/6xx series was released in 2006. At that point in time, previous Garmin units transferred data (maps) over the serial interface (directly connected to the GPS's serial port) at a MAXIMUM speed of 115,200 bit/s. Compare that to USB 1.1 at 1.5 Mbit/s (Low-Bandwidth) and 12 Mbit/s (Full-Bandwidth). So when USB 1.1 was released on the nuvi 3xx/6xx series, it was blazing fast compared to what we were previously using (serial interface). Some units (mostly marine and aviation units along with the eMap) used Garmin's proprietary Data Card format which, when used with the optional USB Data Card Reader was able to reach much higher speeds as it was a USB 2.0 reader/writer. If you didn't have the reader, data transfers were done connected directly to the GPS which was still done over the serial port and at serial speeds. Garmin held onto this Data Card format for far too long and finally gave in to the SD Card format introduced with the nuvi 3xx/6xx series.

I don't think your 760 is using USB 1.1, my old 765 was USB 2.0, a lot faster when transferring data compared to my 660.

I have a 750, a 760 and a 765 and I'm pretty sure the 750 & 760 are both USB 1.1. The 765 is USB 2.0.

Thanks for advising, that's interesting, typical Garmin, one would think the entire 7XX series would use the same communication protocols.

Your right, my 350 comes from 2005 not 08. Fat fingers I guess.

The 7x0 and the 7x5 are not the same series. The 7x5 was released after the 7x0 with upgraded feature set.

I have a 760 and it's definitely USB 1.1 - extremely slow.
However, when I load .mp3 files or .aud files (audible books) I tend to take the SD card out and put it into a USB 3.0 reader in a USB 3.0 slot and it's really fast that way.
