Garmin Smart Link Traffic worth it?

I have the Garmin Nuvi 2497LMT and an iPhone 4. I installed the Smart Link app on my iPhone which syncs to my Nuvi and works with the free features. Is it worth paying $19.99 for the Live Traffic feature?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Depends...

If you live in and spend most of your road time in a metro area where traffic data is accurate and timely, yes...

If you live in and spend most of your road time in a rural area where traffic data is unavailable, no...

Please check the coverage on

Please check the coverage on Garmin site. Live traffic cover is usually very good. I am using it for the last six months or so in Toronto Canada. I have also made trip to US and it worked pretty well.

Garmin's HD traffic is

Garmin's HD traffic is pretty good so the paid traffic "should" be slightly better.

WAZE is what I use for traffice so If you have a smartphone use WAZE since it is the best traffic service currently available.

Yes, I'm using Waze as well.

Yes, I'm using Waze as well. I'm in Connecticut along the I-95 corridor so traffic awareness has always been important. I like the detail Waze offers and the constant updating among users to verify reports. I'm guessing the Garmin Smart Link Traffic won't have every little "vehicle on the side of the road" report, but the Garmin having a little more coverage than just the FM tuner provides will be good.

I guess I'll see how much battery the Garmin Smart Link Traffic uses on my iPhone. Waze turns my phone into a nice little hand warmer that I need to keep plugged into power.
