new 2597

The first couple of times I used the 2597 it didn't do what it did yesterday and I was on the same street that I was on the time before yesterday's little flub. I wasn't navigating so it was showing me the upcoming cross streets. But twice it got stuck on the name of the next cross street, it named the street then kept that name in the bar for about three blocks then went back to working normal, and as I said it was on a street that it had worked fine on that I had been down two days before. I suppose it could be it was having a problem with the satellites. Then from there we went to a restaurant and when I shut the car off that power outlet goes dead so the GPS normally counts the seconds down and shuts off I didn't pay any attention to the GPS when we got out of the car and when we got back in the car the GPS was still on.

No big deal, just wondering if anyone else had experienced the same thing?

Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong.

Is your GPS plugged in

Is your GPS plugged in properly to the car's power port? I know I've knocked it loose on more than one occasion just enough for the unit to think it's not plugged in anymore.

Yes, mine has not shut down before

I have the 3590LMT, which I guess is similar enough to your 2597. It works like this: When I push the button, it only goes into sleep mode, like it is suppose to. Then when the button is hit again, it will start up immediately. When I hold the button in for a few seconds, it asks if I want to shut it down.

Assuming yours works that way too. YES...I have had mine to not automatically power down after stopping the car at a restaurant or whatever. My unit tends to get a little confused, unless it is given a complete shutdown once in a while. So, it seem to be a good idea to hold the power button in, and shut it down completely on occasion. Kinda like any computer, it is best to do a cold boot once in a while.

Unless you are the lead sled dog, the view never changes. I is retard... every day is Saturday! I still use the Garmin 3590 LMT even tho I upgraded to the Garmin 61 LMT. Bigger screen is not always better in my opinion.

never had to

I have never had to push the button, like my 855 when the outlet goes dead it always started it's countdown. There may be a menu setting to change that, I've never looked because the way the 855 works is fine with me. I haven't used it that much yet but if I remember right if I hold the button for a couple of seconds it just shuts down, no asking. The strangest one to me was it getting locked on the up coming street name for about three blocks.

That may be possible, I remember one time with the 855 we had driven about 75 miles and I got a low battery warning. I pushed on the plug a little and problem solved.
