Who Has Given Up Their Watch and Just Used Their Smartphone?

OK, admittedly, I did not give up my watch voluntarily...it is "under repair." In the meantime, I am stuck with just my smartphone to keep me informed of the time. How-some-ever, being in this predicament has made me aware that there are indeed several people who do not wear a watch and pull out their smartphone (or cellphone) when they want to check the time.

So, how many of you have taken the plunge and replaced your watch with your cell/smartphone?

Haven't worn a watch in years.

Phone has been my clock for 15+ years. Phone can do so much more and tell time too.

what time is it?

I don't have a smartphone so can't comment on the watch thingy, however I seen my neighbor has thrown her vibrator in the trash can.

No Longer Use Watch

Since the smartphone is always with me, the watch stays home and not used.

Good luck to all.

Watch vs phone

Most weekends I have no idea where my watch is, however, I do wear my Casio Solar powered atomic clock watch. Never wind it, never set it. Always right. All my other watches are dead and sitting on a shelf.

I still wear my watch

mostly for sentimental reasons . . .

Who Has Given Up Their Watch And Just Used Their Smartphone?

I haven't given up my Casio G-Shock solar atomic watch yet. I suppose I am just old school, but if I am doing something I just want to look at my wrist and see the time. I don't want to dig for my phone jsut to see what time it is. On a realted note, I wonder if anybody gets a Garmin watch just for the time.

I'm with the people who

I'm with the people who prefer just to look at their wrist for the time. Current watch was a present, is into its second decade, at least half a dozen or more straps and batteries gone through. Can't see myself giving it up till it falls apart, (which will probably be after I fall apart) wink

I think I'm on

Timex #5 or 6. They get scratched and smashed and I simply replace 'em. Lot cheaper than an iPhone and Walmart will install the occasional battery for free.

I have a clock on the microwave, the stove, on my GPS, cell, and one on the CD player in the truck.

As well, one on the bedroom alarm clock (never use it), computer (all 3), and on the TV if, and when I turn it on.

I need a watch for what, again? mrgreen

Solves a problem

I have not been able to comfortably wear a wrist watch for a number of years, due to a pinched nerve in my spine that makes the nerves in my arm excessively sensitive. My solution in the past was a pocket watch, but once SWMBO gave me a cell phone so She could keep track of me, I saw no point in carrying both a pocket watch and a cell phone.

If only one of those devices was to remain, in the interests of self-preservation, the cell phone was the survivor.

Watches Have Their Place

I only use a watch when I'm hiking/kayaking/canoeing/wade fishing/flats fishing/ etc. Being an avid outdoorsman, that happens to be a very often. My watch also doubles as a compass. It's a Timex, but an expensive one and it does the job when I need it to.

Just today, while out hiking near Lake Kissimmee in remote central Florida, in a very remote swampy area of the western shore of the lake, my compass watch came in most handy. That along with my handheld Garmin Colorado 400 C, loaded up with a topo map, was all I needed out of range of cell phone towers.

Needless to say, years ago I would have gotten by with my compass watch and nothing else. I've had the batteries go dead in my Garmin on long trips before, and once down in the Everglades, my compass watch saved my butt from missing a scheduled pickup and being lost overnight.

Believe me, even one unplanned night in the Everglades can be hell. I know from young and dumb first hand experience about 30 years ago.

Have a pair of watches.

Have a pair of watches. Don't wear them. Besides, time is the fire in which we burn.

Still wearing my watch

I wear my watch. My smartphone doesn't replace it.

I feel lost

without it on. Still wear mine.

Watch free since 2002; Cell phone resistant until 2009.

I've been lucky in not having too many requirements on my time to where I have to be at some place at an exact time where there's no clock around.

The lack of cell phone until 2009 help keep the stress away as well.

Even without watch or cell phone, I still had clocks just about everywhere.

Of course, there was that time in Vegas a few years ago where we turned our four day reservation into a fifth, very expensive overnight stay because we lost track of the number of days we were there.

The above may be so, but.. isn't it easier to wear a watch and glance at the time than it is to try carrying a big old stove around with you for the time? And just think about the "loonnngggg" extension cord you have to have just to keep the clock running. wink

I'm not really lost.... just temporarily misplaced!

Just resumed wearing a watch

After the band wore out on my last watch, and I could no longer find replacements, I went at least a year without a watch. I tired of pulling out my phone to check the time (if the battery hadn't died), and finally picked out a Casio G-Shock Solar Wave Ceptor, and received it for Christmas. Hopefully I'll get a few decades out of this one. I'd go crazy for GPS as a secondary synchronization source, but I think that's too ambitious for wrist-sized solar power.

Still have my watch

and I seldom look at my phone for the time.

I travel quite a bit and use the secondary digital time display for a second important time zone. A quick flick of the wrist allows me to know the time where I'm at and the second location.

And sure, I use the multiple time zones in my Android phone app, but it just doesn't seem as convenient to me for some reason.

Watch being repaired

I had a similar situation a few months back. I used my phone for a clock until I got my watch back, but I'm wearing it again now. It's easier than pulling my phone out to check the time.

I like mine, red dial, $75 from Target years ago, but I wouldn't have thought that it's so cool to have a second one. I will say though, that I love the analog display, and knowing that the atomic clock is keeping the time for me makes it painless.

Never worn a watch.

I'm one of those strange people that drains batteries out of watches so I could never wear one growing up.

I know there are other options for powering watches nowadays, but since I never acquired the "habit" why start now? razz

Time?

I'm looking forward to retirement less than a year from now. At that point I won't care what time it is. Go to bed when I'm sleepy, eat when I'm hungry and play the rest of the time. With any luck, I'll be able to jettison the cell phone too. The only time I use it now is when my wife loses me in a big department store. wink

Cheers

After all, the wrist watch replaced the pocket watch for a reason.

Because you always have to remember to carry the watch and wear it.

I used to wear a watch, but after getting a cellphone, it became another thing to keep track of.

Cellphone, watch, wallet, keys, sunglasses, etc. One day after coming home I set down my watch somewhere and lost track of it. After that I never bothered to replace the watch, wasn't worth the effort to carry another redundant device.

In fact the smartphone has replaced these following separate devices I used to have to carry / worry about: camera, GPS, wrist watch, mp3 player, personal planner / PDA. Smartphones are awesome.

Long Ago

I stopped wearing my watch and just used my phone long before Smart Phones. Clock in vehicle, clock on the radio on my desk, many clocks around the house. My watch broke and I could not find one I liked to replace it.

What's A Watch????

No seriously, I haven't worn a watch in about 15 years, or whenever a clock showed up on my cell phone. I still have the watch.

A watch is unnecessary redundancy when a cell phone is carried.
