Yesterday's technology vs. Today's technology

In order for Apple be able to ship 1 million devices on the day it goes on sale. It has to start manufacturing the products at least 6 months before product announcement. Considering how fast technology progresses, it only means when you buy an apple product, you are buying a technology that is at least 6 months older than competitors who can only sell a few thousand devices on the first day.

supply can't keep up with demand

I'm giving my son a 4S for Christmas to replace his older iPhone and AT&T has him on a 5 week waiting list.

Samsung outsold Apple this year. That means they made more phones in the same period, and were able to sell them as well.

Check out some Droid tech. Dual core, and the latest GPU's. It's pretty hot stuff!

Edit - One other thing; check out a Samsung Super AMOLED screen on a phone. It blows Retina into the weeds!

Samsung takes a cut on iphone as well

Well, they are one of the primary hardware suppliers in iphone. so they take a cut of Apple's profit too.

True

But, that has nothing to do with phone sales.

Another PC vs Mac Battle

I am thinking about a tablet and the two dominant units are the Apple iPad and the Samsung Galaxy. Looks like this is just another PC/Mac battle.

Yes however....

It doesn't really matter how many Samsung or Apple sells, it's all about how much each earns in profit. Who cares how many are sold if the profit margin isn't there? Apple consistently has profit margins in 30% + for everything they sell, none of their competitors can even come close to that. That is why they are one of the most valuable companies in the world. Samsung....not even close.

I have the iPhone 4S. I

I have the iPhone 4S. I also have the old Samsung Galaxy S. I wish I had the Samsung Galaxy S2...will have to wait to get it.

I love Samsung Android phones.

so it has...

So it has begun......the battle for droid or mac OS software among manufactures means better $'ing for US!!

No Bias here

I found this article interesting not to tout one is better than the other, but to point out how many are flying off the shelves! It's a truly amazing number of devices from only two sources.

Personally, I've moved to my Torch for the last week...

If you are looking for a tablet, take a serious look at the Asus Transformer. They are about to release the Asus Transformer Prime. I have 2 Transformers and am very happy with them

Not my cup of tea

At the moment Asus has left a bad taste in a lot of folks mouths, after the disastrous marriage with Garmin and the NuviPhone. I myself wouldn't touch a Prime.

I'm trying to decide between the new iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy SII.

This thread/topic is giving me food for thought. Will keep checking back to get more feedback on each phone.

Hehe I got the SGS2 as a nice post-xmas gift from the wife!!!

Oh my gosh I love the phone!!! It is so amazing, the best phone I have used bar none.

My iphone 4S is looking so outdated in comparison. Still a good phone if you have nothing else, but it does not compare to my SGS2.

    Maybe, but...

I call my Samsung Intercept a "Not-So-Smart" phone or sometimes an "IPhone Wannbe". It has several good ideas that I like, but the mechanical implementation leaves a lot to be desired. The touch screen is at times either too sensitive or not sensitive enough. It is very slow bringing up webpages and the voice quality is poor, it is a phone after all isn't it?

On the plus side, I do like the slide out keyboard. The keys are large enough for my fingers and I appreciate the QWERTY layout.

    Samsung Intercept

At $250 or so, it's not a higher end phone by a long shot. 800MhZ, but only 256 RAM. That's the problem.

Touch screens are capacitive, and depend on a certain level of moisture on your fingers to transmit the electrical signal.

    I don't think so

When you are dead, you don’t know that you are dead. It is only difficult for the others. It is the same when you are stupid.

    Apple iPhone

Lot of apple iphone & ipad first release in the US are going on ebay, craigslist and oversea market. So it not reflect the true number that end user buying. It just a way apple marketing by using those number idevice sold/activated within weeks, months.....

    Duplicated.

    Duplicated.

    If that's what you're saying

@ stevennguyen If I read your comments correctly, you're saying that smart phones manufactured by Apple competitors (Samsung HTC etc) are being disposed of rather than being sold second hand. That's a pretty good reason to buy an iPhone.

    Not so smart phone died

So I had to replace it. Chose the SGSII over the iphone 4S. Both are good, but I liked the flexibility and free apps that you get with Android. I have been very impressed so far. The voice resignation is very good. I did not think I would use it much, but it has been very handy with Google Maps.

    LOL

And how does this not apply to any other phone, such as droid?
