iPhone 5 and iPad 3

Well, there are many alleged stories popping up regarding the iPhone 5 and a release sometime later this year, around summer-ish.

Let's use this thread to compile notes.

Also, iPad 3 is getting more attention lately with a pending release. Rumors there are the iPad 3 will be getting 4G LTE data capability.

Looks like 4G LTE will be one of the big things in iPad and iPhone releases, to go along with the anticipated deployment of those services by the carriers.

iPad 3

I've read in www.macrumors.com that the iPad 3 is being released in early March.

A co-worker once told me

Guess that brings out the dog in me. I am getting an iPad for my birthday. Just which one remains as to how much of an upgrade the iPad3 is. Did they drop pricing on the previous version when iPad2 was released?

The orginial iPad droped about a 100 dollars after the iPad 2 came out.Later on I seen a few at Sam's cheaper then that. Here is a little info on the iPad 3 http://www.ipad-transfer.com/ipad-2/ipad-2-vs-ipad-3.html

Improvement or Hype

Apple seems to be releasing a "new" version of the iPhone and iPad every few months. Are they really RESPONDING to consumer demand by providing an improved product or are they CREATING consumer demand with a new release?

Appel has has long been a master of publicity and creating a "buzz" - you NEED to buy their new device! But once you hit the top, you better produce. Ask Nokia or Research in Motion...

Apple will release the products when...

Or when they figure they've squeezed as much money as possible out of the existing products!

I have heard that

iPhone 5 will have a substantially larger memory and higher resolution.

If it doesn't get a larger screen and micro sd card capability i won't be at all interested...

sd card

You can almost guarantee yourself that the sd card will not happen. In part, Apple bases their prices on memory. While they could still do so with the sd card, the card could reduce the need for larger internal storage.

Yes, Apple does not like it

Yes, Apple does not like it when you can get cheaper storage via SD card. Also it would compete against the iCloud offering.

No way

I don't think there's any way that Apple will offer SD or MicroSD storage. It's just not going to happen. I sincerely doubt they'll go to a replaceable battery either.

With Apple it's always been "You'll take what we give you and like it."

iPad 3 - March 7

A friend who works for Apple is attending a big "event" to announce a new product release. He thinks it's the iPad 3.

As for me, I'm going looking for an iPad 2 at a bargain!

I'll probably go with an

I'll probably go with an iPad 3 unless they drop the iPad 2 price about $100. I see where Best Buy is discounting the older model $50 but if that's all the difference I will likely buy the iPad 3. Have to wait for the announcement to see what is changing.

iPad 3

Hot off the press:::: iPad three is being released this week and all of us who said we are comfortable with the iPad2 will still be paying attention and drooling over whatever additions are included, regardless of how few. We just love new gadgets and the acolades of those who say; "Oh you've got the new...."

The New iPad Is Out

It has 4G/LTE, great camera, 1080P video, high resolution screen at the same prices as the earlier version.

And the new/updated apps look great.

So the next iPhone will probably have 4G/LTE...

Kills the old iPhone

It seems to me that every time they come out with a new iPhone they give the old ones an update that causes problems with the phone. This more or less makes you buy the new one. We'll see what happens this time when the iPhone 5 comes out.

Huh?

Huh? I have a iPhone 4 and had no problems when iPhone 4S came out even after updating the iOS.

Why would they do that when they still sell the iPhone 4 and are still going to sell the iPad2.

I Don't Think So

There is a huge market for early iPhones. I just sold my 3G. The 3Gs is an enormously popular phone, still in service.

Looks like I'll get the iPad

Looks like I'll get the iPad 3. The upgrades make it nice enough to buy. Also like the upgrade to iCloud to handle movies. As a side note I saw a car using an iPad for gps with it dash mounted. She could hardly see around it. I love the product but that's a bad place to put a tablet

still cant afford them

Looks Like the New iPad Will Be a Good Advancement

Think about it... Stand-alone cameras have about 12 million pixels, but the screens used to view them have a fraction of that. Now with 4x pixels in the iPad, pictures are gonna really pop and take advantage of the number of pixels a camera can obtain.

I used to have a very good SLR film camera with a few very good lenses. I took lots of pictures, but the pictures never had the pinpoint sharpness I expected. I looked at the negatives and the negatives had phenomenal detail but the prints did not and were not sharp at all. That was using a regular neighborhood photo processing center. I then took my negatives to a professional shop and what a difference!!!!! My pictures now looked professional and all the details and sharpness was there, from the same negatives.

Excessive pixels in a camera really aren't useful unless you have a commensurate display to take advantage, and the new iPad had that display.

The graphics processing of the New iPad had been enhanced to handle this extra graphics load.

The new camera will enable the acquisition of photos and movies that take advantage of the HD display, and the photos and movies can be managed right on the iPad. The new and revised apps make it possible to do it all on the iPad.

The apps that are available, or soon to be available, to take advantage of this new hardware enabled capability are also impressive.

Tablets are the future. I use my iPad almost exclusively for internet access and email, and am migrating my use of word processing and spreadsheets to the tablet.

Apple was so busy

Apple was so busy upgrading/enhancing the iPad hardware, they forgot to come up with a new name. "The New iPad" sounds kinda generic. These are better picks: iPad 3, iPad HD, iPad 4G.

They forgot to update the HW

They forgot to update the HW that drives their online store too. Took me an hour to get it ordered. Multiple http errors and even a "store down" screen. But it will be here 3/16!

Can't wait for the

New iphone

Regarding the name "iPad"

I think Apple hopes to make the iPad name so iconic that numbers/models are not important. Kind of like using Kleenex for tissue.

Personally, I like model numbers to differentiate products and capabilities. You won't be able to run "iPad 3" apps on the original iPad, after all!

Expect release around October 12.

Just a wild guess... happens to also be 20 months after Verizon released their first iPhone, and everyone that got one at launch will begin to be eligible to upgrade phones and renew contracts.

Don't like...

The camera on the iPad is not exactly what you want to use for taking pictures. Kind of large and hard to hold for taking pictures. The only way to put other pictures you have is through iTunes. When you edit pictures on the iPad it saves them in a different folder and not the original one. You also cannot delete pictures you put on with iTunes. The whole photo thing on the iPad is not user friendly at all. Once you do get the pictures on it it is great to view with I will admit..

I Wish Apple Would Drop the Numbers...

They don't do that with the Macs, iPods, MacBooks, etc. It's just a MacBook of whatever generation. No need to discern it in the name.

If $3 isn't too much, you can try Photo Transfer App. Will iCloud work for you on a PC?. On my Mac, I take a picture on my iPhone, or my iPad they automagically show up on all 3 devices immediately with iCloud.

I also found THIS

I am Stumbling into the Apple World

I've been working with computers since the early 1970s, starting with a computer the size of my house, moving to a "personal" computer, and now using a little laptop.

Last week I got an iPhone AND an iPad at work. Haven't got a clue how to use either one and Apple is not big on including manuals with their products. surprised

This is a REAL change for me as I have deliberately avoided keeping up with technology. I was slowly getting comfortable in my role as a Ludite and then THIS happens. Drat!

Does that make me an Apple convert?

send 'em back

Awesome!!!!

There are online manuals, or downloadable, they trick you into using the device while learning how to use the device. Pretty tricky, eh? wink

That's the whole point... you don't have to know how to use it. Just use it. Do you think that the hundreds of millions of people that have these iPads and iPhone had formal training? Or are more adept at the technology than someone like yourself that has spent a lifetime in the fundamental technology?

You have a whole new world that is going to open up in front of you. Have fun!

I grew up on an algebraic calculator. A friend had an RPN calculator and I thought he and his calculator were the strangest things in the world. I gave it a try and now I can't use an algebraic calculator, the RPN is far superior.
