how does the POI for speed and redlight cameras work? i download it in2 my nuvi 260w and wen i come to a point that i just downloaded it says "redlight camera" or something?

How and what did you load to the 260? Did you read the Getting Started FAQ?

The files are intended to warn you that you are approaching a redlight camera or a speed camera.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
Do you have POI's on your nuvi?
If so, use POI Loader to load the Red Light Camera and Speed Camera CSV the same way. I would recommend loading the files manually. That way you can set the distances that you want it to alert at. I recommend 1000 - 1500 feet. Also, add an alert voice and bmp to show the location as you approach it. The voice and bmp file should be named the same as the Red Light and Speed Camera file with the exception of the file extension name.
I use mine all the time and it's really kept me alerted to potential conflicts. Be extremely cautious of right turn on red locations! Probably 90% of red light camera violations are for doing a rolling stop on a "Right Turn on Red". Even though there is no conflicting traffic, the fine is the same and it's nearly impossible to beat.
When turning right on red, come to a complete stop at one of the following:
a) The Stop Line
b) The Cross Walk
c) A point at which you can see around obstructions to observe traffic w/o entering the crossing lane
Drive safe, and keep your POI's up to date.
