Uploading Sound Files

Hello,

After listening to the sounds available here for the red light camera POI's, I decided to make my own. I thought I would upload it here for others to use if they wish. I can not find instructions to upload sounds. I assume it is possible, if somebody could point me to the correct link.

Live Links in Posts

Ladies & gentz,

Let's have the "copy and paste" feature a thing of the past by making the web links in our posts live (active)...

Just place the url as a text in your comments and, before submitting the post, above the "post comment" button, hit the "input format" and select "Filtered HTML with Hyperlinks".
Is that easy and it makes a big difference.

thanks

Reporting errors in POI files

How does one report an error in a POI file posted here? For example, the file listing Wachovia banks in NC has an entry for a location in Yanceyville, NC that is actually "American National Bank and Trust Company".

Solar Ray Glass

Man, I was playing around in my company car tonight (first time since I got the nuvi, been getting rentals lately) and I realized that I got only 19ft accuracy (where I usually get 10-15). I then started to look at the windsheild and saw that it was SolarRay. Now I know why my radar detector doesn't work as well in it then in my own car.

What a bummer!

How to hide microphone wiring

I have a new Nuvi 660. I bought an external microphone from Garmin to improve the clarity of the bluetooth phone. I put the microphone on the visor. But I hate the wiring dangling in front of me.

Anybody has a good idea how to hide the wiring along the seam of the windshield? I thought about the hot-glue gun, but I'm concerned about the summer heat.

Thanks in advance

Soound Files

Is it me? or is it the sound files?

I can't seem to get the sound miles to play. Yes I followed the instructions at the bottom of the page.

I click on the name, it takes me to a sencond page that gives the poster and a link back to the original list.

I've tried the save as command and what I get is file is not recognized.

Thanks.

MSN Direct Services Fuel feature tip and alternative

Not everyone has the MSN Direct Services for their GPS so here is tip for the next best thing if you have cell phone with Internet.

Go to GasBuddyToGo.com and do a Search for prices by City/State or Zip/Postal Code. This will get you the best prices but of course it won't show how close they are to you.

Confused on downloads

Hello all:

I have a Garmin 200W nuvi. When I try to download some POI files, it trys to save some of them as .xls files even though the download screen says it's a .csv file.

Of course the garmin won't read the .xls as a POI file.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

David

BMP Icons for locations on Nuvi760

Hi;
The Nuvi760 has the dots for different points of locations on the directional map. Like the gas stations, banks, restaurants, hotels, etc, etc. Is there any program that anyone knows for the Nuvi 760 that converts all these locations from the dots to a bmp icon(ie hotel bmp, ATM bmps, etc, etc).

What does "portable" really mean?

I have been researching "portable" gps units and wondering does the term refer to more than just being able to move unit from car to car, i.e. does it have rechargeable battery, can it be placed in your pocket while walking, etc. Has anyone had experience using the so-called "portable" units while walking in a strange city, or on a bicycle?

Memory card on the TomTom 720

Can anyone tell me what I can do if I add a memory card to my TomTom 720? I tried loading audio books to it but could not get them to work. If I am using the map thats in memory what can I do with a memory card? My instructions don't say much about how I can use one. Thanks

More post??? or is it just me?

It seems that after T'giving, there has been a HUGE increase in posts!!!!! Can the admins give us a percentage? I can't even keep up anymore. Each time I come, there are 4 pages to read.

I know that a lot have joined since then, but many times just because you join, you don't necessarily post, and some move on after a day or two.

Hardwiring 5v gps

I want to hardwire my gps to my vehicle but I don't believe I can cut off the cigarette adapter because it steps the voltage down from 12v to 5v. I don't have much room to work with where I want to tap into the cars power. Has anyone done this without wiring the cigarette adapter in behind the dash?

Strange GPS return story

With all the talk of falling prices and people returning units because of this and/or outdated maps, I thought I'd share my first auto GPS story.
