newbie at this . ive ordered but havent recieved my nuvi 650 yet . really excited about getting started . my wife thinks im nuts with all the info ive downloaded so far that pertains to the unit. hopefully i wont have to ask to many questions from the gurus but still excited about all this.

Could somebody tell me an easy was to identify the node of a certian subject "thread" and then copy it so I can refer somebody, on this forum, to that particular node by putting it in my reply with a copy and paste function.

This could set a few new precidenses and make people rethink some of those nifty on board gadgets in their new cars.

Although It hink I saw something simialar on one of the CSI's a few weeks back. Some body probably saw and said "hey why cant we do this for real.."

I would like to know which set of maps (the year to be more accurate)that I have for my unit (Nuvi 650). I just bought it at the end of Nov. Would that include the 2008 maps or the 2007 maps? Thanks for the help.

I have a .gpx file that loads OK using the POI Loader.

So this is what I'm trying to do...

I'm trying to "add" additional POI's to that file, by copying and pasting the previous POI in the file and just changing the LAT, Lon, address & phone number information.

I would like to download special POI's into my Nuvi.
The "Restricted Low Clearance" for my RV, and I'm a railfan, working on a fairly large POI database
(100 points and growing) of trainwatching hotspots,
rail historical sites, museums, etc. in North America.
Correct me, I'm an Electrical Engineer, just trying
to get sequence right.

First, what is correct .xls format for a custom POI?

In September, POI Factory's free database grew to include over 1 million points of interest. We're so excited to reach this major milestone in such a short time, and we won't be slowing down anytime soon.

I currently use TomTom on my WM6 phone and it works well, but I have been thinking lately of going to a full blown dedicated solution. So what I wanted to ask is what should I be looking for in a new unit? what are the pluses and minuses of each system. Its not my intention to start a flame war, but I need the help.

Does any one know why I am not recieving a voice prompt for upcoming traffic situations.

I get the visual indication on the screen but do not receice a voice prompt on my Garmin 660.

I had to go off a major highway due to an accident ahead but did not receive a voice prompt.

Has anyone found a GPS deal lately like the one from Costco? I'm kicking myself over not getting that one.

How come some of the files listed here won't convert. I am using POI Edit.

Has anyone had a problem with a Garmin Gps V8 Maps to give the wrong directions in New York City from where i went was 347 miles from point a to Greenvale NY that is in Long Island the gps took for ever to recalculate when it did it said i had 1,478 miles to drive even when i got to my destination the gps said i still had 898 miles to go i put the address in and it is the exact same as when i mad

Just downloaded a bunch of POI's for my Garmin. After driving around I've found a bunch to be in the wrong location, off by a block or two or on the wrong side of the road etc.

Never had this problem with my Tom Tom ONE POI's (Plus I could see them on all screens).

I realize they are made by a lot of folks who are really helping out, just curious of the process.

are there any gps which diplay road speed limits and prompt you when u go over the road speed limit.. note i am not talking of speed limit via poi but raw data on the road speed limit...

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.. .

After receiving the Nuvi 680 recently, I noticed that under the + sign in the upper right corner there is always a small box with a clouds and lightening bolts and I can not figure out what it represents. At first, I thought it indicated the weather forcast for that day but it always remains the same everyday, even when it is a clear day with no rain.

I have gotten a variation of this comment a number of times when people in my garage ask me why I bought a GPS.

Ok, we're using our little toy to take us from point A to point B, but what about pairing it with a good weather radio, automatically switching frequencies along the route?
Any recommendations for a particular model?
I know, the MSN traffic receiver is giving weather alerts (?) but already have a TMC w/my 660.
