This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.
This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.
You stop at a Red Light (with a Red Light Camera), waiting for it turn green. An emergency vehicle is 10 cars behind you, have it light on and siren on. What would you do?
Dang - it is still Monday
Just stay where you are.
yeah i would stay put i know the city of chicago is like a machine when it comes to those cameras they say if you got pictured you got the ticket no excuses no reasoning
I won't try to take it on the plane (not sure of Southwest's policy), but will take it to Phoenix.
We are planning to drive from Phoenix to my daughter's home in Tucson. It's a new development, so I'm going to find a supermarket or something that's closeby.
I guess it's a two hour trip. We're getting in at 7 pm so it'll be a night drive.
Will let ya know how it goes.
P.S. Did I say "Go Pats"? Go Pats!!
and let the emergency vehicle get around you.
If, for instance, the ambulance is trying to pass on your right, the worst thing you could do would be to pull over to the right.
is about two hours, depending on which part of Tucson. It's mostly flat, straight, boring drive, especially at night. But I bet the area has grown since I was there.
You did get the second GPSr, didn't you?
I tried to squash the bug on my screen. didn't work.
Guess I'll spray it with Raid.
what does the law say about this? there has to be a loophole somewhere, but would the traffic people believe you and or show the film that proves what was going on?
anyone know anything?
You jump out of your car, go in front of your car, wave your arms and hands at the red light camera, and smile when the ambulance set the camera off.
That would really bite to get a red light ticket for an emergency vehicle. Kinda funny though.....honest judge it wasn't me it was the other guy.....LOL!!
This actually happened to me a few weeks ago. I was the lead car in a pack sitting behind a red light, heard sirens blaring and saw an emergency vehicle trying to come down the driver side but was stuck--I knew I had to move in order to free up the pack behind me. There was a brief moment when I thought, crap, I don't know if this is a red-light camera. That thought passed and I moved, and the emergency vehicle was able to make it through the intersection. I haven't seen a ticket in the mail yet but I think I did the right thing.
On a side note, I am always amazed that many people do not know how to react to lights and sirens on the road or the highway. Coming out of the Licoln Tunnel, I actually witnessed a car that was being followed by a police car and would not move--just kept driving faster and faster. Unbelievable.
This happened to me by my office, luckily the fire trucks have the ability to trip the light to green. Just before I moved it changed. This is the same intersection that two co-workers have recieved tickets and the photos clearly show the light was Yellow and they got the tickets dismissed
When the heck is my Colorado gonna ahip!?!?!?!?!

You'd think the car was running from the cops.
Didn't know if it was a red light enforced intersection? Red light cams are VERY large and VERY obvious.
You are not required to "get out of the way" of an emergency vehicle but to "yield" to an emergency vehicle. If you are stopped, you are yielding. If you "get out of the way" which way? You may pull straight into an onrushing emergency vehicle. You don't read minds of the drivers in these vehicles. They WILL find a way to maneuver around traffic if the traffic will only not move while they are trying to do it.
If you are legally stopped but are effectively blocking the emergency vehicle (in this case an ambulance) from being able to get through, you are not yielding. The ambulance pulled up to the back of the line of cars behind me and sat there for a few seconds with his lights and siren blaring--he was NOT able to find a way around us. I can't read minds but I employ a little something I call "common sense." I was not pulling over into oncoming traffic, merely to the half-shoulder of a T-shaped intersection, single lane of traffic in both directions--this allowed the spacing required for all the cars behind me to do the same thing. That then allowed the ambulance to pull through. He had his lights and sirens blaring, which to me means, "everyone pay attention, and those who are in my way, get the heck out the way." IMHO every second counts when there is an emergency, but obviously you must use your own common sense to decide what to do at that intersection if you are confronted with the same choices.
I've been driving in the New York Metro area my whole life and this has always been the expected behavior of cars whether it is on local streets with traffic lights or on the freeway. Whether you are on the FDR or on Broadway, the GW or the Tappan Zee, there is simply not enough space for an emergency vehicle to weave through traffic without a little help from the vehicles that are in its way.
On the flip-side, I have seen emergency vehicles, with lights and sirens, have to sit and wait in bad traffic, all because people were unwilling to shimmy over to the left or right and potentially lose their place in the traffic queue. IMHO this is selfish and ridiculous.
maybe you just haven't seen some smaller cams??
the first ones a few years back were HUGE, but i've seen some recently that just kinda looked like a street light, and was really hard to notice, of course my garmin alerted me from the files I downloaded here =)
The 1st cameras in my area were obvious, but newer ones not so much. I find it funny that when the 1st redlight cameras went into the Portland area everyone was so angry that they made the city put up these signs warning drivers of the upcomming camera. the funny part was that the camera was bigger than the sign! lol
I'm done with the snow so if we get any more here in western MI i'm just going to e-mail to all of our members in the warmer areas of the country.
Hillary and her driver
Hillary and her driver were cruising along a country road one
evening when an ancient cow loomed in front of the
car. The driver tried to avoid it but couldn't - the aged bovine was
struck and killed.
Hillary told her driver to go up to the
farmhouse and explain to the owners what had happened. She stayed in
the car making phone calls to lobbyists. About an hour later the
driver staggered back to the car with his clothes in disarray. He
was holding a half-empty bottle of expensive wine in one hand, a
rare, huge Cuban cigar in the other, and was smiling happily,
smeared with lipstick.
"What happened to you," asked Hillary?
"Well," the driver replied, "the farmer gave
me the cigar, his wife gave me the wine, and their beautiful twin
daughters made passionate love to me!"
"My God, what did you tell
them?" asked Hillary.
The driver replied, "I just stepped inside
the door and said, I'm Hillary Clinton's driver and I've just killed
the old cow. The rest happened so fast I couldn't stop it."
The old cow. Good one!
yeah, that was pretty good!
I have seen "Market Place" on other forums. Does anyone here think it would be good to have place where people could sell GPS and GPS related item to members? My son is looking for something he could use when he cycles and does not want anything to pricy.
I am not 100% positive, but I think that the admins have already knocked that idea down. Can't remember why.
we want to focus on Points of interest, too much liability to have a market to get distracted by.
ah, that is what I was going to say...

I live in the next town to Daytona !
We went out yesterday looking for some Patriots T-shirts to rub it in a little bit to our hosts at tonites party. Couldn't find ANYTHING but Speed Weeks, Daytona 500 and Bike Week T-shirts.
Got a BIG Patriots Beer mug tho !!!!!
And it's warmer here !!!!!!
I know it is warmer here than up north. like it is going to be close to 75 deg here today
Welcome to Florida Jerry !!!!
Been here a while but love it, this weather is great, cant beat it for feb.
78 degrees was the high today in South Texas.
We'll be in Orlando and Ft lauderdale next week! Hope the weather is nice. But then again, any thing warmer than here will be great.
NY GIANTS .... SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!!!!!!!!!!!
Way to go BIG BLUE!!
Looks like the '72 Dolphins are still the only undefeated team in history ... so sorry Bill Belichick and Tom Brady!! ha ha!!
I know where I'll be Tuesday .. ticker tape in NYC!
Oh, was the Super Bowl today? I really don't watch Basketball. It seems the only time it is exciting is when they get a home run!
Can you tell I'm not really into football?
NASCAR starts in a couple of weeks, though! Go Jimmie Johnson!
Did you know that the only safe place in the world to be during a tornado watch is Cleveland Browns Stadium..Never a confirmed "touchdown" Ha Ha..couldn't resist..
Tomorrow at work, take a clear, small,EMPTY container and set it on the table in the lunchroom. Ask your co-workers:what is that? After some head scratching, tell them: It's the Brown's Trophy Case..Get it? EMPTY.Ha Ha.lol
Big Blue did it, Amen!
And I bet those folks in FL are really glad they couldn't find any NE fanfare now. Would have been worthless now.
And it was a great game, too.
You're not one of those people that think NASCAR is actually a sport? Are you? And go Jimmie Johnson? Please ... it's all about the pit crew and mechanics ... now those guys have talent - as far as mechanics go! What's J.J. do, drive around in circles? Come on!
There's nothing between now and March Madness!
Well, pitchers and catchers report to camp on 2/14 ... at least we get the hope of baseball then.
MLB Opening Day is March 25 this year, and then we have the Master's starting April 2.
