Costco Alerts

I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I was curious if there is a way to create automatic alerts (similar to an upcoming red light traffic camera alert) but rather for a place such as Costco.

I am a fan of the cheaper gas at costco and I have the CA costco poi file, but I thought it would be nice to be driving on a road trip and have the costco alert popup automatically when I'm a couple miles away. I guess I would find it cumbersome to be driving long distances and have to continually shuffle back and forth between my final destination and the costco POI file.

Anyone know of a way to do this?

Yes, set alarms through POI Loader

Use POI Loader 2.4.0.1 (beta) and load your POIs in the manual mode. You will be given a choice for each POI file (i.e. Costco) if you want to set a proximity alarm and at what distance.

Garmin StreetPilot c530, Mapsource

you could also

You could also have an mp3 as your alert sound instead of the standard Ding.
Create any mp3 you want. Record your voice, clip of a song, ringtone, whatever. Just convert to mp3 and rename it the same as your poi file name, and place it in the same folder with your costco gas file. ie "costco gas.csv" and "costco gas.mp3"

You would still need to set the proximity alert as directed by mkahn

One caveat, however, I believe you must first have a gpsr that has an mp3 player, to set custom audio alerts.

sort of

The gpsr does indeed have to be capable of handling the mp3 format.

How about .ogg files, wouldn't they work just as well as the mp3's? I have several custom .ogg files loaded on my TTOne. I use them for my alerts and they work just fine!
