You rename the file that POI loader creates on the card (or in the nuvi memory) to something else, keeping the same extension. The nuvi will still find them, new POIs can be loaded and will not delete the differently named file. I have several files on my nuvi for different groups of POI (restaurants, red light, ham repeaters, recreation, and so on), and I only have to replace the POIs in that category when I want to reload POIs.

rename poi loader

ok, i have my pois then I have 4 sub folders like fast food, exits, and others, so i guess i am not sure what file i should rename, and do I do that evrytime I up grade new files, you said do that with the poi loader? sorry i am alittle slow on this stuff, but this site is great...

rename through my computer interface

I have several sub-folders also. I do not do the renaming with the POI loader, I go right in by the drive interface in my computer and do the renaming. There are more than one ways to remove the exterior of a feline, but here is basically what I do:

Load a group of POI such as fast food with POI loader. Don't load everything, just the fast food POIs. I generally do this by moving the fast food folder into the directory that POI loader knows about, but you can also just point POI loader at fast food, do whatever works for you.

After POI loader has loader the fast food pois, go into the nuvi or nuvi memory card by the "my computer" interface in your computer. Find the newly created file, named poi.gpi or poi.gpx or something like that (I don't have my nuvi handy to check the exact file extension) and rename it to fastfood.g.... keeping the same extension. The nuvi will find this file when it restarts.

Load your next set of POIs, rename them as above.

Continue until you have loaded all of your POIs.

When the nuvi is restared it will find all of the POIs.

When you want to replace a POI you need only load the set with the change. For example, to change a POI in your fast food group, either to load an update or to add another source of unhealthy eating, you:

1) go in through the my computer interface and delete fastfood.gpwhatever

2) load your fast food POPIs again with POI loader, a poi.gpwhatever file will be created.

3) go in through the my computer interface and rename this to poi.g... file to fastfood.g... keeping the same extension.

Actually steps 1 and 2 can be done in any order (unless the gps is extremely tight on space), so I usually do step 2 first and then steps 1 and 3 in one operation, it makes life easier, but I put them in the logical order for you.

SUPER
