Latest Firmware for Nuvi 760

Has anyone tried firmare 2.70 that came out a month ago? I installed it this weekend and I finally have an update that fixed my bluetooth issues with my Blackberry. It is definitely worth trying especially if you are having bluetooth challenges.

NUVI 750

Yes I downloaded it to my 750. Don't really know what it did to improve my unit. But I believe it also included some other updates to SIRFInstant Fix ll which improves how quickly it finds satellites.

Only firmware...

At one point, Garmin were bundling other fixes with their firmware updates and these two posts made me think they had gone back to doing it.

But they haven't: the standalone version of the 2.70 firmware update only contains the main unit firmware. It doesn't include Sirf or Bluetooth updates: these are separate updates, using WebUpdater.

Firmware

I believe the update included the SIRF update as my unit did not have the latest version before I ran the update. At least that is what I recall...

Webupdater

I did use the webupdater and got the bluetooth update after I did the initial 2.70 upgrade.

New 760 owner

Will be receiving my new 760 within a few days.
Quick question, should I run a firmware update on my 760 as soon as I get it or would the unit already come updated.
Should I install the 2009 maps on the nuvi before running a firmware update or does it make any difference at all. any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thank you

It shouldn't make a difference

The updates are independent of one-another. Make a backup of the unit before updating to be on the safe side, though. I would do one before and then after, if you have the space to spare (about 2 gig each).

Firmware Ver. 2.9 is now

Firmware Ver. 2.9 is now available. Works fine on my Nuvi 700 series.

back-up

Is there a step by step of how to back up my new Nuvi? I use a Macbook, but would probably store it on an external hard drive. Does Garmin have a procedure for doing this. I've searched here and other sites and there seemed to be a lot of info (which is beyond my understanding) about not being able to save certain files and corrupt files, etc.
Is there a dumbed down version of how to back up?

Thanks

Yep

Just plug in the Nuvi (via the USB cable), open the drive under "my computer", hit CTL A (control A) to select all files, right click the files and select copy. Open the hard drive file and create a folder on it for the nuvi files (new file>(name)), open that folder, right click in the open space and select paste.

this will copy all the files to your hard drive. It will take about 45 minutes.

No it makes no difference - the maps are stored in the GPS internal memory while the firmware is flashed onto a bootable embedded flash chip. These are totally separate areas on the device.
