Undocumented Nüvi 2xx feature (USB GPS Mode)

According to a Newsgroup posting, the Nüvi 260W supports the Garmin 'USB GPS' Mode, as well as mass-storage mode.

In this mode, programs such as NRoute and XImage are supported. Mapsource, POI Loader & the Garmin Communicator plug-in are as well - the advantage being that you don't need to keep rebooting the Nüvi, if you are going through an "Edit/Download/Test" cycle.

To enter this mode:

  1. Ensure Garmin drivers are loaded, or available
  2. Press and hold the battery indicator to enter diagnostics.
  3. Connect the USB at this point.
  4. Confirm any prompts from Garmin drivers.
  5. Exit diagnostics

This is the same (undocumented) functionality that the StreetPilot C5xx has (that lead to the TTS modification). I'm interested to know if other members of the Nüvi 2xx series have this feature as well.

Also, does the Nüvi 7xx series do this? (I know that the Nüvi 3xx and 6xx series don't)

The USB drivers are to be found here:

It seems to work for the 760

The system prompted me for everything and said it loaded the USB drivers. Then it asked me if I wanted to plan a trip, or load POIs.
