Garmin talk

I have been on this site for a few days before just joining. As a newbie I'm trying to figure out the capabilities of my Nuvi 250W. Is my model able to download and use the POIs from this site? My map came pre-loaded so should I also get a DVD of my maps from Garmin? My so called "OWNERS MANUAL" is a "QUICK START" guide only. Is there a web location that explains the fine points of my unit?

I just got a new Nuvi 750 and have been giving it a few trial runs. First of all I LOVE IT! But I quickly found that many of the installed POIs (grocery stores, restaurants, etc) are seriously out of date. It has some listed that have been gone for 3 or 4 years. Other newer businesses are not listed. How does that get updated?

I have learn that icon should have the same name as the .csv or .gpx to display correctly on your GPSr.

If I have a .gpx for speed alert and each waypoint have different speed limit. How can the icon be displayed properly?

Should I have to split them into different files by speed?

Hello All! Brand new to GPS and just got my Nuvi 750 today. Tried to register it on garmin.com, but couldn't find the serial number. When you click the drop down on the site to find your model, the 750 isn't even listed!

For anyone looking at cases for their widescreen Nuvi's, I just noticed that it fits quite nicely in the zippered case for my Western Digital Passport Drive. It's just very slightly loose, but not a bad fit.

When you connect the USB cable to your 650, just hold the power switch down, release it and press the Power switch again. Keep holding it on the second press (you'll probably hear the beep tone). This will keep it from connecting to the computer (I have a Mac and the icons don't appear on my desktop) and it will say: "Going to Charge Mode...". Now, you can release the Power Switch.

I have a Garmin c550. I would like to put some of my places saved in "Favorites" into a .cvs file so they can be transfered to my "Extras" location.

How do I find the coordinates?

Greetings all. I just retired my IQue 3600 GPS & PDS and got this Nuvi. WOW, I didn't need all the extras in the more expensive models, and my trip to Kentucky and back was just wonderful with this unit. I'm getting a SD card for it and want to try some of the POI's that you folks have made up. I must admit, I will have to study up on how to use them tho.

someone smashed my car and stole my gps c320 model.. can the unit be traced by garmin representatives to find itz current location...

I know it can be done, and I am new and not a geek.
Say for example, someone wants to get directions where I live. I was thinking of typing their address where they will be starting from and simulate going there, and then simulate returning home.

Greetings from Lost Wages, NV... I'm a recent Nuvi addict and it looks like I found the treatment ward! So I'm sure 4,278 folks have already asked this so here I go stupid... Why don't Custom POIs show on screen at all times like Favorites? Thanks and I look forward to chatting with everyone!

is there a reason why everytime it turns on it says new data found then next screen it says do u want want to transfer it to the garmin. the poi files are in my SD card. Is there a way for it to stop popping that message all the time. It says new data even though i didnt put any new data.

Is there a way to detour by road,,rather than just hitting the detour button and letting the garmin decide....Sometimes you get on a road and the traffic is bad, If i hit the detour button it doesn't always detour me of the road I'm on..sometimes the detour is on a road i will be on latter in the trip...

I,m having a problem trying to upload custom POI's to my nuvi 650.I have used the poi loader and get the confirmation that they were all successfully loaded,but when i look int the "extras" folder for custom poi's its empty.Did some reading on the site and looks like i,m not the only one having problems.The unit has very little free space on it (supposed to be 700mb internal i saw less than 50mb

I love the FM Transmitter feature, but don't like the static. I live in the DFW area and the radio stations are back to back here. So there is no good place to find a quiet channel.

Kudos to Garmin. They've been putting out some good and actually useful firmware updates where I can actually see change for the better. First, the 4.2 OS update made a noticeable difference in the increase of screen update speed. Just took my first trip with the new "chipset G" GPS 3.0 firmware update.
