Nuvi 350 - Organizing the .gpx file

I bought my wife the gps and I would like to configure it in such a manner as to organize certain addresses in groups ie. Family, Friends, Work, Personal Business, etc... I entered a number of these into the Nuvi and see them in the current.gpx. I have tried a few different attempts but have yet to figure it out. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

Nuvi 350 - Organizing the .gpx file

I'm new at this, but reading comments from others I made a "My POI" folder on my computer and then put sub-folders inside it. The sub-folders can be labeled as you want. When I use the POI Loader program it asks me what folder I want to load onto my Nuvi. On my Nuvi 250W the subfolders then show up on "Extras". Read other comments on this site about changing Lat/Long positions from Google Earth or Garmin Mapsource into POIs using PoiEdit or EasyGPS programs (All Free from this site) It's tricky at first but if you have problems others from this site will help.

What I do is put all the

What I do is put all the ones that I want into favorites (there are other ways, but since we are talking about favoirtes and gpx files, I am telling you this way). Then I open the gpx file using POIEdit. Then I save it as a "Garmin csv file" and then up load it using the POILoader and as Navyman said, it will show up under your extras as "Custom POIs"

POI Categories

You can create all your poi files as .csv files then bunch them into your categories, in subfolders ie.
your folder structure can look like this:
POIS
-- Friends
---- Good friends.csv
---- Business Aquaint.csv
---- People I hate.csv
-- Stores
---- Walmart.csv
---- Kohl's.csv
---- Victorias secret.csv
-- Museums
---- Art.csv
---- Nat Hist.csv

Etc. When you load them using Poiloader They will show up on Etras - Custom POIs in the same structure. You can only go one Folder Down However. If you wanted to put another subfolder under Stores it wouldn't work, (The structure would not be maintained).

Thank you all. I will

Thank you all. I will attempt it when she is out of the house. It is for Christmas. I wasn't sure If I could add a set of nodes to the xml or have different files all together. I will post back if need further assistance. Thanks again

Problem loading POIs from CSV

I tried the suggestion in this thread about organizing folders containing CSV files. Everything worked as it should - in my Nuvi I can see the folders and files. However, the files are empty. When I select one of them, it says "No matches found". I know the locations are there in the CSV files. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

The question that comes to mind is how do you have the POI folder on your computer organized? Mine has nothing in the top level other than folders. I labeled mine Food, Fuel, Auto Service, and Other. In each sub-folder I put the CSV file, the .BMP and the sound file.

I point the POILoader at the top level folder and the subfolders are each loaded in turn with the CSV files. Going to Extras/Custom POI shows the folders and the names of the CSV file. I can search say FOOD for different restaurants or the fuel folder for different truck stops. My other file has things in it such as the camera files, rest areas and other items that are more general in nature.

Is this how you organized your folders?

My top-level folder has

My top-level folder has nothing but folders. I have Germany 1 and Germany 2. Each folder has 1 or 2 csv files. When I go to Custom POI, I can see the Germany 1 & 2 folders. When I choose Germany 1, which has only 1 csv file, I get the message "no matches found". When I choose Germany 2, I see both of the csv files. Again, when I choose either one I get the same "no matches" message. I have checked dthe csv files to make sure they are not empty. Thanks for your patience - I'm sure there's something I have overlooked.

There's some kind of a distance limitation - beyond which POIs don't display. I've never ascertained exactly what it is, but it's somewhere around the 5000mile mark.

Try engaging 'simulation mode' and manually setting your location somewhere closer to Germany - that may cure the problem.
