Garmin nuvi 350 -- firware 5.10 -- what is new?

I have applied my map updates last week. I saw that the installation program also did unlocking of the maps and upgrading my firmware to 5.10.

Do you guys know what is new in 5.10 and what is the difference between 5.0 and 5.10?

Thanks RT

The first link I read, because I found it before... I was thinking more of the experience side of the update -- any new things noticeable in performance, views...

Thanks for the thread link... I obviously missed it somehow... smile

Upgrade to 5.10 and GPS Chip Set Type G for Nuvi 350

I just updated my Nuvi 350 to version 5.10 and all works well. After the update I checked web updater again and it had some voice updates along with a GPS Chip Set Type G update. I was not sure what that was and could not find it on the help page so I called Garmin. I was told it was an option, but should use it. I then asked, what it does to my Nuvi and requested just a simple answer. I was then told that it makes my Nuvi 350 lock on faster. So I updated with that suggestion. Nuvi 350 DOES lock on faster. Good information!

Here is what I have noticed

Here is what I have noticed, and some of it could be just me.

1) This isn't me, it is fact...the attention tone disappeared with tts voices. works fine with non-tts voices
2) The distance that it tell you to turn has increased, sometimes too much. Tonight I had to travel another 10 seconds or so before I actually turned when she said "turn left now"

Can we get chipset G without 5.10?

I updated to V5.10 but did not see an option for Chipset G for my Nuvi 350 while updating. I only remember seeing a list of vehicles after that. I did not care for V5.10 with the loss of Attention Tones and I noticed that the turn navigation timing seemed different. So I downgraded back to V5.00. Where would it say if you had Chipset G? If I look at system info it shows:
Software Version 5.00
and a couple lines lower:
GPS SW Version: 3.00

How do you downgraded...

I found a link

I found a link that had a downloadable EXE with V5.00. I think Garmin released the V5.00 that way because there were problems with WebUpdater on some systems. Anyway, it worked like a charm and returned everything to v5.00 and did not overwrite any of my Favorites or POIs.

Can you post the link?

This is the link that I found, with various software versions in self-extracting EXE files.

350 software

I've noticed that in different posts that several people have software versions that are different for the audio version and GPS SW versions. I have audio version 1.40 and GPS SW version 2.50. Are there anyway to update these?

I did that with web updater.

web updater

I just updated the Software Version to 5.10, using webupdater, but the Audio version and GPS SW version remained the same. How did you get those to update? Did I miss checking a box somewhere?

Chip Set G

I first upgraded to 5.10. Then I let it update the Nuvi 350, disconnected, quit web updater, then pluged the Nuvi in again, opened web updater again. It told me I had the latest update, but on the lower end it had a long list of voices one could update to improve the quality of the voice. While I was scrolling down this list of voices I found the Chip Set G to update. I use a Mac. I had no problems with the updates. I hope this helps you find it.

Chip Set G

I found chip set G also, and updated it, but still the audio version is still 1.40 and GPS SW version is still 2.50. Have you checked those on yours to see if they updated? From above it looks like there is a audio version of 2.00 and a GPS SW version of 3.00.

Yep, this is the secret weapon:

1 - update the firmware via webupdater;
2 - disconnect & reboot the unit;
3 - run the webupdater again and carefully check ALL screens!

Hummmmmmmmmmm

Even after doing that, i can only find updates for voices, and the Chip set update to G was there again, I updated it again, but still no update to the GPS SW version or Audio versions, only to the firmware updated to 5.10

I did the firmware update from 5.0 to 5.10. I did not not see the Type G chipset option under voices. I did what you had suggested in doing a 2nd attempt on the update. I did find three new languages...cantonese and mandarin (taiwan and china). Anyway I can verify if I have this Type G Chipset? Thanks!

updates

I downloaded the file above and downgraded my firmware to 5.00. Rebooted and the darned thing was back to timing out on satellite lock. So I reupgraded to 5.10 in case that was part of the G chipset upgrade (figured maybe G upgrade needed 5.10.) Went through reboot, plugged back in to see if G update appeared. No choice this time. Checked unit and darned if GPS firmware hadn't been updated to 3.00! I was at 2.90 before I started tonight.

Missing alert tone from firmware upgrade 5.10 is a glitch

I had contacted Garmin about the missing alert tone in 5.10 firmware update, and the following response was emailed to me...

Re: Firmware Update Removed Alert Tone (KMM1760458I10971L0KM)

Dear Dan,

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. That seems to be a software glitch in our system. I will pass this information along. Keep checking the updates and downloads as there should be a fix for this in the near future without having to downgrade to old unit software.

One more 5.10 firmware issue

I noticed *sometimes* when displaying custom POIs directories the last entry is a blank line. From my PC I know what files/directories should be displayed. When this happens I just need to go back to the root directory and navigate back and it is displayed correctly? Any one else see this? I have 13 directories, 288 files, around 790,000 POIs --> 50MB poi.file. I never had this problem with earlier versions of the firmware.

I tried the same thing, downgraded to version 5.00, rebooted, and there it was, GPS firmeware upgraded to version 3.00, crazy, must be something about version 5.00. I then upgraded to 5.10 and everything went smooth, also got G chipset upgrade, mabe version 5.00 didn't completely load the previous time.
Thanks for your suggestion, it worked!

Upgrades...

Last week I upgraded my 360 with web updater, I first did the software update then rebooted and installed the G chipset update, so I now have:
Software Ver. 4.30
Audio Ver. 1.30
GPS SW Ver. 3.00

I will call Garmin after the holidays but My problem is, before the updates my volume was set with two notches from full and I could hear it while driving, AFTER the update I now have the volume full and it still seems too low, I know I am going deaf but not that fast...

yeah that happened with a nuvi350 update. it was suppose to fix the volume (which it did, doesn't distort), but it seems that all they did was lower the volume.

Garmin nuvi attention tone issue fix is now available!

For those who have noticed that their attention tone was removed when performing the last update (5.0 to 5.1) on their nuvi 350 or similar, the fix is now available from Garmin. Get update version 5.2 if you like your attention tone back!

yes... I believe we all noticed
