Poi installation

I have just started installing POI's on to my Nuvi 660. I have been loading the Redlight Camera poi for starters.

First I did just the redlight-camera.csv file (no bmp, or sound file). Everything worked great. Next tried loading with a .bmp file. My third try I loaded with a .mp3 file (which I think is cool instead of hearing the bong-bong).

Now when I use POIloader I create the file. And then I would rename it to Redlight-Camera.xxx (xxx means I forget the extension). I load it to my Nuvi 660. Now when I created a new file with the .mp3 file and use POIloader to install it to my 660. I rename it excatly as the file on the 660. I checked the "Extras" and now I have two different Redlight-Cameras spelled exactly the same.

Do I have to erase the old file before loading the new one? Or am I just missing something?

When you install POI file to

When you install POI file to your GPSr with Poi Loader, following applies:
redlight-camera.csv -- custom POI
redlight-camera.mp3 -- custom alert (optional)
redlight-camera.bmp -- custom icon (optional)
All 3 files have to be in the same folder when loaded on to your GPSr with POI Loader.

Duplicate POI's

Did you upload one to the unit and the other to a card?

POI

I don't think my original post made sense.

Have the first redlight camera list loaded in my 660. Just the .csv file

I updated the redlight camera file again to include the bmp and mp3. This time it created a second redlight camera listing in the "Extras" section.

I thought it would have just updated the first file I loaded on the 660.

Duplicate POI

Both files were loaded onto a SD Card then installed onto the 660.

It should have

Like I said above, poss one on the unit and one on data card? Try removing the data card if you have one and see if one of them disappears.

Transfer to unit?

Ok, when you inserted the data card it probably asked if you wanted to write the files to the unit? If you said yes then you may have them on both.

SD Card removed

Just tried it with SD Card removed. Both listings still show up. Maybe I just renamed it differently.

Hmmm

I think when you "transfer" POI's from the card to the unit it merges with them rather than overwriting them. You can use POI loader to delete them and start over it you want.

Duplicate

Yes it asked if I wanted to transfer. I said "Yes".

Ok no biggie. Will just go in and manually delete the files from the unit.

Thanks again.

.

In your first post, it sounded like after you ran POI Loader, you went onto your nuvi and renamed the POI.GPI file to Redlight.GPI (or something like that) and then ran POI Loader again with the BMP and MP3. And then ended up with duplicates. Is that what you are saying?

When you run POI Loader, it takes your POI files and creates a new POI.GPI file. It won't overwrite any other GPI file which is why some people like to do the renaming thing.

Also, if you load the POIs to the unit and also to the SD card, you will have duplicates. If you want them on the card and not on the unit, when it asks if you want to transfer, hit "Yes" but then hit "Skip this File" and you won't be prompted in the future.

Just to add to MM's comments

If you want the files loaded to the internal memory, do it straight from the poi loader, instead of loading to SD card, then transfering to internal memory from the card.
