MacWorld review of RoadTrip

MacWorld has posted a review of RoadTrip 2.0 for the Mac.

http://www.macworld.com/article/138217/2009/01/roadtrip2.htm...

It looks like a great tool for planning long trips. I wish I had it for my tour around the USA a couple of years ago.

Is there such a thing? (GPS on MacBook)

I have a MacBook and I have a Garmin Nuvi 650.

Because of the kind of driving/work I do, I use the Garmin more as an illuminated street map so that I won't have to dig out my paper maps to see if the next street coming up is the street on which I want to turn. I only occasionally use it to guide me to a totally new destination.

Creating POIs on a Mac

Let me state at the outset that this is a cross-post. I began by posting it on the Creating POI Files Forum, but perhaps my problem is related to creating my POI on a Mac. Here's my post repeated below:

After reading the FAQ on how to create POI's, I tried to make a simple file of a half-dozen locations.

When, however, I run Garmin's POI Loader on my Macintosh, it won't recognize the file.

Please see my post: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/19732 . Answers from POI users confuse me more. Thanks

For Mac Users

Ah, as promised, Garmin has just released the Garmin WebUpdater that replaces the one that OS 10.5.6 messed up. I’ve just updated my unit and all seems to be fine.

Not Sure it installed

Just got my 1st GPS (Garmin 255w). Installed POI Loader for Mac. Set up a folder with POI's from this site, most .cvs some gpx along with BMP Icons all in the same folder with BMP names matching. Did the install with POI Loader and said successful but I'm not so sure. As I'm driving past eg. McDonald's on my way to a destination should I see the icon on my 255 as I drive by, if so I'm not.

Problem with WebUpdater?

Yesterday I attempted to check for updates for my 260W. Although the application WebUpdater (ver. 2.04) has worked flawlessly for me in the past, That time I got "Error communicating with Garmin server." Repeated tries yesterday and this morning receive the same message. Is it me or them??

Thanks in advance.

Maps for Garmin RoadTrip

I just received my 755T and was checking out all the Mac software available. RoadTrip looks like it could be useful, but I have no idea how to get the maps from the GPS into the program.

I did manage to get the unlock code setup... Any ideas?

Help--iTunes, Playlists and my GPS card

I am completely confused by this iTunes program altho I am a life long Mac user. Let me give an example and maybe someone can tell me what to do. I have some Rod Stewart etc albums on my SD card in my Nuvi 660. I can see the names and they appear to stay together on the GPS menu. OK, now I have 8 .mp3 tracks my wife wanted from the Oprah Show .

Formating .csv files on a Mac

I tried to combine five of the outlet mall POI's using Excel. When I tried to convert the .csv file to a .gpx file using csv2gpx, it did so but when I tried to import the .gpx into RoadTrip (which is why I did the conversion in the first place) Road Trip told me it was not a proper file and would not import it.

Help with Mac bitmap

Although I am an old mac user, last year when I started working with my Garmin, I used an old Windows laptop to work with my POI's and the icons. Now that I have a new Mac, I am using it with my POI's. Problem is, I can't figure out how to create and work with the icons. What program do we use on our Macs to work with the icons, to create, and then save them to work with our POI's?

Thank you

New Communicator plugin (v2.6.2) for the Mac...

Hi Fellow Mac users,

Today I tried sending a location, via the Garmin Communicator plugin in Safari (v3.1.2), and it failed. I was, however, able to send the data using Firefox (v3.0.1) successfully.

I did a little detective work and found out there’s a new Garmin Communicator plugin (for the Mac) and it works, once again, with Safari 3.1.2.

IPod Touch needs GPS

Does anyone out there know if Apple has any plans on putting a GPS into the touch? If that were to happen I would seriously consider buying it. I think that would make it one of the best products out there. I don't need the cell phone but to watch movies, listen to music, surf the web and skype (at hotspots) as well as having a GPS would make it very, very tempting.

mp3 loading problem solved...

Hi All,

I recently purchased a Nüvi 880 and bought two 8Gb microSDHC cards, to load up with my .mp3 music files.

Converting mp3 to 16-bit mono wav format

Am using a Nuvi 200 and Mac OS 10.4 system. Trying to load custom POI's with sound alerts using wav format. Am getting error message stating should be using 16-bit wav files.
I understand that a Numi 200 will not read mp3 files but will use wav files. I can convert mp3 to wav but apparently coming out as audio wav rather than 16-bit after the conversion. Any suggestions.
Thanks--guy

Nüvi 880 firmware (v3.20) not for the Mac..

Hi all Mac users,

Looks like the v3.30 firmware for the Nüvi 880, is for the PC and not the Mac.

According to the Garmin website:
System requirements
IBM-compatible PC running Windows 2000 or later operating system and an available USB port.

After you've created a route with Road Trip???

Hi fellow Mac users,

Once you've created a route, using Garmin's Road Trip, how do you get that route to your GPSr? I've created a route, highlighted it, and clicked on the "send" button in Road Trip. Then after I unmount my Nuvi 880, I can't find the routes I just uploaded.

Am I missing something here?

Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated...

Regards,

Tailspin
