Mac Defender Malware

This is interesting:

So it is confirmed that malware writers are targeting Macs now.

iPad as a gps

Can the iPad be used as a gps with google maps and poi's like my Garmin gps does? I am wondering if the iPad updates your location as you drive along like gps's do?

Garmin Communicator Plug-in with Google Chrome browser on Mac, working for you?

It appears to install using the Garmin installer, but does not show up as an extension in Google Chrome browser. Should it?

When I try and upload data from my Garmin Forerunner 305 into http://connect.garmin.com, it fails, telling me that Garmin Communicator is not installed. Thoughts?

Woot!? Mac is the 1st to fall?!

A team of security researchers from the French pen-testing firm VUPEN successfully exploited a zero-day flaw in Apple’s Safari browser to win this year’s Pwn2Own hacker challenge.

VUPEN co-founder Chaouki Bekrar lured a target MacBook to a specially rigged website and successfully launched a calculator on the compromised machine.

Garmin POI Loader 2.2.1

Rumored iPad 3 really iPad Mini? (Would This Make A Good GPS?)

I am not really an Apple guy, but my wife and both sons each have the iPod Touch. Anyway, as time goes on and there continues to be a convergence of various electronic devices, I find myself interested in an iPad 3. I have often thought that for GPS navigation, the iPad is too big and the iPod Touch is too small.

There's a new version of LoadMyTracks for Mac

POI Loader 2.1

I'd like to return to the older version from POI Loader 2.2.0.

Is there a location somewhere for the older version 2.1 ?

Revised POI loader? 2.2.0

Garmin has a revised POI loader for the Mac. The version number is 2.2.0, which seems to be the same as what I've got already, but with a revision date of 1/25/2011.

Changes made from version 2.1.0 to 2.2.0:

* Fixed issue where associating bitmap with gpx file could cause crash.
* Fixed issue where links embedded in gpx files where not being processed.

Garmin BootCamp & NUVI

Bootcamp can read City Navigator when NUVI is connected to mac usb. So I copied the contents of the Garmin subdirectory onto an SD card and placed the card in an SD reader. Bootcamp sees the SD card and City Nav shows up just like the other maps.

I copied the contents of the SD card onto my HD. Bootcamp did not see this new location. Tried to import and that did not work either.

Loading .wav Files

I have a nuvi 1490 LMT and want to load some .wav files for alerts. How can this be done on a Mac ? I found the sox.exe file but that's for a PC only.

Thanks

POI loader seems to limit POI's to only 2 on SD card in Garmin nuvi 760

I am using the latest POI loader (v 2.1.0) for Mac on an iMac G5 OS X.5.8).
When I download POI's from this site using either Safari or Firefox, then transfer them one at a time manually to the SD card (SanDisk SDHC 4 gb) that mounts with the device, I can only have 2 custom POI files on the card--a third download to the card erases the most recent of the previous POI files.

Mac USB support for Garmin and other devices

I am running OSX 10.58. I keep my systems, Mac, PC, and Linux current with the latest updates. Recently I attempted to add some POIs to my Nuvi 650 using Google Maps and the Garmin plugin for Firefox. This has always worked for me but this time it could not recognize my Nuvi. Strange. I tried the POI uploader. Same story. I tried the Web Updater. Same story.

MapManager failed to load my maps

New mac user here... I am attempting to load my current map on a new macbook pro running snow leopard 10.6.4. I followed Garmins instructions to load MapConverter on my Windows XP machine. When I ran it, it said my City Navigator 2010.10 was already mac compatible. I copied the City Navigator___.gmap files to a CD.

I have already loaded RoadTrip, MapManager and MapINstaller on my macbook.

Mac gaining ground, so why doesn't Garmin see that?

I just bought my Garmin 1450LMT yesterday, and was a bit peeved at Garmin's lack of Mac support. As a result I did a bit of research, and sent the following to Garmin:

Safari Browser Giving Away Private Info

Heads up to all Safari browser users. Your beloved Mac isn't as safe as you think.

Your browser may be leaking your private information to any website you visit.

There's a video demo here:

POIs off road

I was unable to find any information on this. If anyone has some information, I would appreciate it.

My wife and I recently drove to BC from Winnipeg. In Moose Jaw SK there is a big moose off the east bound side of the Trans Canada Highway. I believed I had set a proximity alert but nothing came up.

Garmin: Voice Studio for the Mac…are you listening?

Dear Garmin,

If you're listening, and I hope you are, I'd like to see a version of “Voice Studio” released for the Mac OS. You've come a long way, in support of the Mac, from the days when Mac support, virtually didn't exist.
