Problems with POIloader using Snow Leopard

Is anyone else having issues using POIloader on Snow Leopard? I installed it from the App Store but whenever I point it at CSV files from POI Factory, it just hangs on 'initializing'.

Conversely, I spin up a windows virtual machine and the POIloader install there works just fine and only takes a second or two to process the files.

How to Import a Nuvi's Map to Base camp?

I'm new to Base Camp (and Mac's).

I've found that the "base map 2.0" that comes with Base Camp can not search street addresses.

With my Nuvi 760 plugged-in I can search street addresses with the City Navigator NA map that resides on the Nuvi.

This City Navigator map on the Nuvi is unlocked, and I can see and use it in Base Camp when the device is plugged-in to the Mac.

Slow Mac USB -- Crazy Idea -- Feedback Requested

With two Garmins (255W, 1450LM), three Macs, including a 2011 MacBook Air, and two operating systems (10.6 and 10.7.4 now), I have NEVER been able to connect a Garmin via USB at 2.0 speeds. Every time I'm limited to USB 1.1 speeds (12 megabits per second). I've used different cables, powered hubs, no hubs, etc. It's always slow USB 1.1. Keep reading...

Garmin Alerts | How Do I Get Voice Alerts Using Wav Files For Units Without Mp3 Capability using a Mac?

I just got a Nuvi 2595 and discovered that my custom POI alerts that I created for my Nuvi 760 no longer worked. It turns out that this is because the 2595 does not support the mp3 format. However, custom POIs alerts will work if you use the wav format instead of mp3.

This forum post - http://www.poi-factory.com/node/25730 - explains what you need to do if you are using windows.

End of the Road for us 32 bit guys?

Looks like Apple may be sheading another generation of Mac machines. Lion eliminated folks who use Rosetta, now indications are that Mountain Lion will eliminate all the 2007 Mac's using 32 bit EFI firmware--and that includes me. Not gonna buy another Mac (have 4 now) just to run Mountain Lion.

Maybe Apple will issue a firmware upgrade just for us old fogeys...

Invisible files

I know there is an easy way to expose them but I can not remember what the program is with SL on a Mac. I also see this has been a dead area recently so I'm coming here to ask. I may go to Apple discussions also but I thought I'd start here.

Garmin 2012.3 Update (troubles on Mac)

Garnin needs to hire programers that know a little about Macs. It is a giant pain to get to this update. It won't come in at all on my laptop. It's now downloading on my iMac.. It kept wanting to download the special programs to download the maps and they wouldnt open or anything on the iBook. Finally I got the single time program to work on the iMac. I have no idea what the problem was.

Garmin Updater - Incompatible Architecture - Now What? (PowerPC Mac)

GM All

1 went to get my new Lifetime Map Update last night and here's how it went.

I was given the Two Choices, 1) Lifetime Updater or 2) Garmin Update.

I am running a PowerPC G4 with OS 10.5.8 which according to the system specs for Lifetime Updater is not okay. Garmin says to use Choice 2. Quoting the Info box

It seems to work with Lion.

Lion does not play nice with POI Loader

Updated to Lion this morning and plugged in my 765T, it was recognized but when you try to update POI's it crashes. Also tried Web Updater and that worked fine.

Need help copying the MP3 sounds to my Mac to use with my POI"s

OK, I am able to use the POI loader and load the all three files with the same name other than the extensions '.csv', '.bmp', and '.mp3' to correctly make custom POI's work with my Garmin.

However, somehow I've forgotten how to be able to download (or copy) the sounds that others contribute to this site as 'sounds' that can be used along with the POI's.

Base Camp 3.2.1 released July 7th.

For those of you use Base Camp, Garmin released Base Camp 3.2.1 yesterday. If you use the Mac App Store (you need OS X 10.6.6 or later) you can do a free download from the Mac App Store. Otherwise you can visit:

gpx files will not load (xml extension added on mac)

New Garmin gps - first day in the POI Factory. csv files seem to load without any problems. However, the Garmin POI Loader (2.2.1) will not load any gpx files. When downloading, the files go straight to the Downloads folder with ".xml" added. The csv files that are downloaded do not have this extension added. I tried taking the xml off of the file name - still did not work.

2012.1 Update: Gotta Delete Those Pesky MacOS Invisible Files

I just updated to 2012.1 and loaded the 4GB microSD card with maps from 2012.1, TOPO National Parks East, and TOPO 2008. The GPSMAP60CSx didn't see the maps, just was as if the card was not in the GPS. So I checked to see if the pesky invisible files were still on the card and they were. I deleted the invisible files and all is now well.

Mac Defender Malware

This is interesting:

So it is confirmed that malware writers are targeting Macs now.
