Communicator plugin and Safari 4 (not the beta)...

Hi Mac users,

I upgraded my Safari.app to the newly released Safari 4 (not the beta). I downloaded the latest Communicator plugin (v2.7.1.0) and installed it. Then I went to the Garmin “Communicator plugin test page“ and it’s not recognizing the plugin.

Anyone else experiencing this behavior?

Mac Pro (Intel) Mac OS 10.5.7 and Safari v4.0 (not the beta).

It works in Firefox v3.0.10.

Any ideas???

If I do something requiring the Garmin Plug-in, I use Firefox.

Communicator Plugin and Safari 4 solved...

Hi Mac users,

Resolution for the Garmin Communicator plugin and Safari 4 (not the beta)

If you are using Safari 4 (not the beta) and the Garmin Communicator Plugin shows as not being installed, please remove the “Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin" located in the Macintosh HD/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/“Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.webplugin" and restart Safari 4.

Do not remove the “Flip4Mac WMV Plugin.plugin“ in the same folder. Flip4Mac will still function and the Communicator plugin will then function properly.

Re Success...

Hi dhamish,

I don’t see why not. It’s just a workaround for the Safari 4 web browser. Be my guest...

tailspin - interested in knowing how you discovered the fix

Hi tailspin,

Just wanted to ask how you discovered this fix as I was unable to troubleshoot fixing Safari and the Garmin plugin otherwise.

Thanks for the tip!
vinnie

Bingo!

I don't use Safari, but my son does, and he'd been scratching his head! Many thanks!

Hi vinnie,

I did a search on “Google” (Garmin Communicator and Safari 4) and found this link:

Looks like the OP just stumbled upon the cause, too.

Maybe the person who posted on that blog removed everything from the plugins folder and just put them back one-by-one until he found the one that broke it.

What I did is made a sub folder in the Internet plug-ins folder called Internet plug-ins (disabled) and put the Flip4Mac and Adobe PDF viewer plugins in it. The Adobe viewer has also been problematic for me, although not at all in relation to the Garmin plugin.

Hi vinnie,

I’m glad the original poster did find the problem and posted it. It solved the problem for many Safari users...
