Welcome / open talk

For <$300, what do you recommend?

I'm looking at and getting confused by many models (mainly Garmin). I'd like the following features:

--audible road names
--good receiver
--US and Canada pre-loaded (as I might make it up north next year)
--<$300 before taxes

Tom Tom 920 Has Voice Input

Does anyone have experience with Tom Tom's voice input. I find Garmin's input method awkward. This is my biggest problem with Garmin -- no interface. Voice input would be a great solution.

Please reply if you have experience. Does it work?

Thx,
Jen

Extra Alerts

Why does the Nuvi alert you to an approaching freeway exchange and tells you to either keep left or right to stay on the freeway toward your destination?

Hi!

Just wanted to say "Hi" and say this is a very cool site. I already created a POI for Washington Mutual ATM in the Sacramento area. I'll be uploading it shortly.

Looking forward to contribute more in the future.

GPS devices on government vehicles nail workers loafing

ISLIP, N.Y. — GPS tracking devices installed on government-issue vehicles are helping communities around the country reduce waste and abuse, in part by catching employees shopping, working out at the gym or otherwise loafing while on the clock.

Bank Question

Kelly Pop Boom Bop Bang. Hi, even...

Let's say a person "waaaa" was to start traveling all over the US of A.

It might be to his advantage to have his money is a bank that would have the most branches all across the country just to have a somewhat easy access to it.

Anyone know which bank that might be?

I am thinking of two - Bank of America and Wachovia that might come close.

Additional voices for nuvi 660 besides Jill

I at one time thought that I had seen additional voices available for the nuvi 660. For the life of me I can not find any mention of these on this forum or on the Garmin website. Can anyone help me in this endeavor. I want to try some voices other than Jill, as I really don't understand her too well.

Garmin Voices

Great help

I was driving yesterday to meet friends who were going to give me a ride to Ft Meyers to play in a senior softball tourn. I ran into a traffic jam on I-75 and lost my ride and now had no idea on how to get to the field. I then remembered someone saying the field was next to the minn. twins spring ball park. wow!

Vegas to Chicago in a box truck - Part 2

Ok so I have been playing with Mapsource and have come up with 3 routes to get me home from Vegas. The route through CO is still the shortest. But I am think it is going to be the one to give me the most trouble if a storm comes in. Below is that option with the 2 others.

Vegas to HOME: 1755 mi 1 day 2:57:44 This is the Route through Colorado. Which we already said is a no go.

Need Icon

Can anyone make an icon of a forklift truck? Possibly a black background with a forklift outline or something like that.

I can't seem to find one anywhere and don't have the time or knowledge to make one.

Thanks

Is anyone still maintaining this file http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4307 ? I find it very useful and would like to see it updated once in awhile.

copying gpi file to nuvi 350

I am traveling to Italy and borrowed the marcopolo southern europe POI for my nuvi 350 from a friend. The unit will read the gpi file from the SD card, but does not ask if i want to load the file to the unit. I do not want to take the card with me for fear of losing it, but the only way it seems to work is using the original SD card.
