POI shows error

This is the fisrt time I have had this happen. I made a POI called Winger's Grill and Bar. I used poi loader to put it on my card fro my 660 it worked great. Now the problem I just updated my poi's and when it loaded the Winger on I got an error saying there was and error on line 42.and the data from there on would not be loaded. I then got the message all poi's were loade. Have looked at the spreadsheet and can't find and error. When the poi loader loades does it count each column as a line or just the total lines in the spreadsheet. Also tried the poi and it works.
any ideals?

bifocals

John, send me the file via email and I'll look it over, sometimes 4 eyes can spot what 2 have missed.

johnm405 if this is the same file you have posted on POI Factory I don't see a line 42 but see errors at line 4 and 27 in column a for the longitude.

errors

I had Flaco check the file also and he found the missing minus signs. I corrected them but still get an error for a like that is not there. Also there are some quotation marks open that I didn't put there. I am going to work on it later today abut need to finish a honey do that I been working on for over a year.

Errors

John, usually when you get the error message you originally described, open the file in Excel. If something is in the lines after the "error line" (42 in your case) correct line 42. If there is nothing in line 42 or after it, highlight line 42 and a few lines after it. Then delete the highlighted lines.

Use notepad

Now that you have found and corrected the items using excel, open it in notepad. Any leftovers should standout.

That is what I suggested to John last night, with notepad you can easily find the extra stuff and the missing ones.

I started using Excel for creating files but after trying with notepad I never went back, I find notepad easier to copy paste and move stuff around.

Error Fixed

Finally. Found the errors and corrected and updated the file in the POI list. There was a formula in one of the long block, a couple of minus missing and quotation marks lower in the spreadsheet that were not showing up. Used notepad and they were there just as plain as day. Thanks to all that helped me fix the problem. Also if anyone has down;oaded the winger grill & bar poi under restraunat there is a new update as of today.

Dear GPF,

Thank you. I had been having such a problem with three of my POI files. Opening each file in NOTEPAD allowed me to see the spurious commas that had somehow arrived in the file. When I have tried to find these pesky commas using EXCEL (even after seeing them in NOTEPAD), I was unable to see them; however, I was able to remove them using NOTEPAD. I had saved the unedited versions of the three files in case NOTEPAD screwed them up but NOTEPAD seems to have solved the problem.

I am most grateful as EXCEL was providing no solace. I should note that in each file these spurious commas arrived on a line later than any data.

David,

You are quite welcome. It is just one of the many tricks I picked up from this site and was glad to pass along.
