My 1st GPS
Greetings,
I finally purchased a gps an chose the Garmin nuvi 680. I based my decision on Consumer Report's review and was wondering what the forum's concensus was on this model. Is there anything I need to watch out for with this model? I purchased it from TigerDirect.ca.
Thanx

Off topic
This is off topic and completely inappropriate, but what the hey! I'll ask it anyway.
Is anyone else having problems getting to a lot of Web sites this morning? For example, I can't get to my home page, which is cnn.com, or to sportsillustrated.com.

Psychologist in the house?
Why is it that a good number of visitors to this GPS forum and other forums like cameras etc will rather get a personalized answer to their questions rather than looking in the FAQ where they could find the answer to most questions?
Do they hate reading canned answers? Or do they hope to get an answer they will like better?

Microsoft Streets and Trips for truckers..
I just updated to 2008 and have all the major fuel stops as well as cat scales. I'm using a Bluetooth GPS unit.
The very first one I d/ld was the weigh stations.
I also have the S&T Keys 2.54.
I'm inclined to try this as opposed to the Alk CoPilot 11. I'm wondering if anybody has both and how it compares.
Thanks for all the work on the files.

Google Earth- great crutch for coordinates
Google Earth is a great crutch if you need one! IF you're looking for a specific place and don't have much information, google earth is a great place to reference. If you're looking for coordinates it will give you that as well.
It's great for Geocaching!

Saving to file an MP3 for alerts
New guy on the site, really like it here
Have a wierd problem, I can't get the sound files to save to a file on the computer,
I right and/or left click the file and it immediately opens Media Player or Quicktime. No "save" or "save to" anywhere. I can't get them to save in my folder.
Doing something dumb, don't know what. Computer litterate except today for this issue.
Any help???

Bus Follows GPS, Shears Roof
In Seattle, a bus driver reminded all of us that a GPS is a co-pilot, not an auto-pilot. Apparently, the driver says he did not see the flashing lights indicating that the bridge had a 9 foot height limit. The GPS had given him the route, so he figured it was fine. The end result? The bus is now one ugly convertible.

Going to new posts
I haven't seen this mentioned, so I'm wondering if it is only me who has this problem. On long, multi-page threads, having more than 50 posts, when I try to go to just the new posts by clicking on that number, I am taken to the top of the first page of that thread. No problem on short, single-page threads.

Chatty Charley thread for the week of April 21st 2008
This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related, you can discuss whatever you would like, as long as it is clean. Remember we have families that have their children involved in the GPS fun and we don't want to make parents feel uncomfortable when their children ask what that word means.
Have fun...
This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

This week we are recognizing two individuals that jumped on board the Antique Store project this week.
Jborsari, was able to supply two files this week, one for West Virginia and one for Maryland. Thanks for helping out with those;)

Download maps from Mapquest to NUVI 350
I set up a route on Mapquest and d/l it to my Nuvi 350 and got a successful d/l message but when I run the route on the Nuvi, it is the regular route that Nuvi would show and not the one that I set up.
Anyone else had this problem? I e-mailed Mapquest about this but have not heard back from them. Thanks

Tour Bus "chop job"
Ran into this article on autoblog. As has been stated often, a GPS unit can't overcome stupidity.

Great Read: No Left Turns....Take 3 mins. & enjoy
This is a wonderful piece by Michael Gartner, editor of newspapers large and small and President of NBC News.
In 1997, he won the Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing.
It is well worth reading, and a few good chuckles are guaranteed.
Enjoy!
