GPS To Improve Air Travel, Well dUH!

I found this interesting news glib after all the reading on this site about carrying the GPS unit with then on their flights. Thought it worthy of a new post. sv
I am surprised they have not upgraded the system yet from radar to GPS.
They should definately spend the money now to do it so it will save them the money later.
When I used to fly, about all we had was VOR, ADF, and dead reckoning. They used to joke that IFR stood for "I Follow Roads".
With more and more aircraft using WAAS GPS, glass cockpits, etc., I'm sure flying is a dream compared to how it used to be.
A pilot I met many years ago said it stood for "I follow rivers." Either one works, but there are a lot fewer rivers to follow than roads.
