Then there's the fact that every time I check the forecast they increase the predicted snowfall. And then there is the issue of the single digit temperatures, why do I live in Chicago?

I too am a transplant from Northern Ohio (Akron/Cleveland area) to the South. I now reside in the Montgomery, AL area.

No snow here either.

Another Week of Cold

Snow, "Blizzard Watch" in effect for the Chicagoland area - this should be fun.

Camping over the weekend - snow, and lots of sledding / toboggan running. Now, if I can only warm back up again.

Best way to lock your car

Some one just sent this to me.

Subject: Best Way to Lock your car

I locked my car --- as I walked away I heard my car door unlock I went back and locked my car again three times. I looked around and there were two guys sitting in a car in the fire lane next to the store. When I looked straight at them they did not unlock my car again.

How to lock your car safely

While traveling my son stopped at a roadside park. He came out to his car less than 4-5 minutes later and found someone had gotten into his car, and stolen his cell phone, laptop computer, GPS navigator briefcase.....you name it ... Called the police and since there were no signs of his car being broken into- the police told him that *there is a device that robbers are using now to clone your security code *when you lock your doors on your car using your key-chain locking device..
They sit a distance away and watch for their next victim. They know you are going inside of the store, restaurant, or bathroom and have a few minutes to steal and run. *The police officer said *...to be sure to manually lock your car door-by hitting the lock button inside the car, that way
I just had someone send this to me and thought it was quite interesting. I have a unit that can give me radio frequencys if I am standing next to you when you key the mic. Never thought it could happen with door locks.

if there is someone sitting in a parking lot watching for their next victim it will not be you. When you hit the lock button on your car upon exiting...it does not send the security code, but if you walk away and use the door lock on your key chain- *it sends the code through the airwaves where it can be stolen, something totally new to us...and real *... Be aware of this and please pass this note on..look how many times we all lock our doors with our keys...just to be sure we remembered to lock them....and bingo someo ne has our code...and whatever was in the car...can be gone. surprised

Supposedly, it's the "cooling period" of the global warming. Or so some claim.

I guess that's why they now call it "climate change." rolleyes rolleyes

RE: Best way to lock your car

Sounds like there are kind of remote control code learning device out there.
What I do not understand is, if I lock my car with remote, I only send the code to lock the car, not the code to unlock it. Very smart!
I will change the habit to lock before closing the door. Thanks, John.

I don't shovel, I have a snow thrower! I send her out right after she finishes the dishes, she sprinkles salt so I don't fall on the ice also.

No problemo!

What it's copying is the device id, like the dip switch settngs on a garage remote. They all send the same signal to do the same function, on the same frequency. It's device code riding on the signal that they copy.

Think of FRS radios. You set a privacy code on a channel. You hear nothing, even though there may be other users on the same frequency unless they are using the same privacy code you set. This is what they are intercepting, the privacy code.

It's now called "Global Climate Change"

This is how the researchers are now referring to it - for a few years now... mrgreen

Of course, the overall trend is that the earth is heating up. The polar ice caps are smaller each year... surprised

The original story above is from Snopes - almost verbatim - false... Still - be vigilant - watch your surroundings and be safe!

Remote control learning device

About ten or twelve years ago, there was a company which made an electronic kit which was attached to a PDA. It would read the remote-key signal when the car door was locked, and then could resend the signal to unlock the vehicle door.

These devices made the national news and the company was closed down after a short period of time. However, many kits had already been sold.

More recently made vehicles have a different type of encription code, and the method of encription can vary between car manufacutures. Just the same, this doesn't mean that a better "kit" isn't available to someone out there.

signal jamming

Thanks, airbrushed and phranc.
The keyless remotes I have for two cars have different ranges. I can open/close my Toyota 4-runner at as far as 100 feet away. The other one, I would say, maybe 20 feet. Now, I feel the shorter range can be more secured.

Just a side track, I noticed, while I am holding any buttons (not panic one) on one remote, if I press open/close button on remote for another vehicle, it would not work. These two vehicle are from same make.
Anyone ever experienced this?

I have a road trip to Floida planned

But not until June. This morning the digital thermometer read -35.7 F.

I want June to get here soon!

RM_MN: -35 F ? Yuck!

I was happy to be in South Carolina at a 'chilly' 50 degrees when Detroit was at -3 F.

Have fun in Florida smile
