Miss POI's Interview with Carey Holzman Discussion Thread

I decided to make a thread with all the comments regarding the interview on Computer America.

Miss POI

At 7:30 Pacific time tonight I will be on the Computer America radio talk show with Craig Crossman and Carey Holzman.

Here is a link to the site: http://www.computeramerica.com/

A couple of great deals on GPS units for about $60

There were a couple of great deals today on a 3.5" and a widescreen GPS for around $60.

It's astounding how quickly GPS prices have dropped. I knew I was paying a lot when I got my C320 a few years ago for around $350 or so. But to get a GPS with similar capabilities for around $60 is mind-boggling.

Red light camera additions

Just checking out the updates for red light cameras and noticed Illinois comes in first with adding cameras in six of the seven updates done this year followed by California with five. Lucky us if you live there. rolleyes

Rest Area POI problem (not showing on map)

HI everyone,

I downloaded the Rest Areas POI and installed it using the POI Loader but I can't get the locations to appear on my map when plotting out a route. This is the first POI I've installed so I might be doing something wrong without realizing it. Other than loading it with the POI Loader, is there something else I need to do to activate the POI?

New on this Site

Hi guys,
I just picked up a Garmin Nuvi 760 today and I am having fun learning how to use it. What is the coolest feature you find with your GPS?

Site Down (02/17/2009)

The site was down a few minutes ago for software upgrades?

What kind of upgrades? Nice to see it back up.

Categories for favorites.

Just noticed something on my Nuvi 265.Usually I put all my favorites in using google send to gps.Using that method they all show up under favorites.Today I went to points of interest, selected food, all food and used the spell to locate a restaurant we wanted to try. After typing in name and finding the location.Touched save and went to favorites and noticed I now have a category for food listed.Afte

Charlie. Nuvi 265 WT and Nuvi 2597 LMT. MapFactor Navigator - Offline Maps & GPS.

Newbie asks again:

I have a NUVI 760, my computer has Vista and I use Internet Explorer. Last week for the very first time I downloaded/installed the Garmin POI Loader s/w plus I downloaded/installed the Redlight & Speed camera POI's from POI Factory.
Here are my questions:

I'm wondering if there's some way that we could...

do an honest (1 vote per GPS owned) on-line survey of reliability among different brands of GPS'? I'm dismayed over the poor quality of one of mine, which has now had both of the battery terminal springs break while it was simply sitting on a shelf.

The ringtone for garmin 680

mrgreen Hello everybody I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to change the ringtone for my garmin 680, when I have my phone hooked to the bluetooth and I get a call it rings with a hideous sound, the boring old ring, ring, ring, any ideas, thanks
Jim

List of POI files I created?

I searched and checked the FAQ, couldn't find it.

Is there a way to see all the POI files I have contributed to the POI Factory?

In my account info I see "Maintainer for these POI files:" but there is nothing under it.

Any ideas?

Thanks,Chuck

Contributors of the week 2009-02-09

This week we are recognizing two Canadian contributors that have been actively adding to our Canada category. Our COW awards this week go to Daytripsca and JD and Beastlet.

Daytripsca, I was pretty excited when your files started to appear on the site. I have put them into a POI Package so that they are all together now. http://www.poi-factory.com/node/20741.

Chit Chat Thread for the week of February 16th 2009

This is the place to talk about things that are not gps related.

Have fun...

This thread will be closed on Monday and a new one will be opened.

Miss POI

Thank you

Wow, great site. I am a new truck driver and this website is going to make my life a whole lot easier. I found the site today and have already added a ton of points of interests.

Increasing Accuracy of Street Addresses and POIs

We have a pretty neat opportunity here with POI Factory by being able to create POI files and share them. I am just wondering what the future holds for the POIs on the GPS Devices themselves. What I am referring to is how street address and locations can vary somewhat. For example, a Walgreens near 15034 Shannon Parkway, Rosemount, MN 55068.

Garmin Asus Alliance

I wonder if the alliance between Garmin and Asus will result in any other products with Garmin navigation software? It looks like the Asus R2H has a GPS in it. I wonder if Garmin Mobile PC would work with it?
