HTC Touch Cruise Footprints
I just became aware of the updated HTC Touch Cruise Footprints
http://www.htc.com/www/press.aspx?id=81678 I am not sure if this will be an iPhone killer or a Garmin Nuvifone killer. HTC Footprints has geo-tagging functionality and has an accompanying car cradle. Actually, if someone were to install Garmin Mobile XT software, it should be very similar to the Nuvifone.

Amazon Gold Box GPS Deal Coming Up!
At 2 pm PST/5 pm EST
http://www.amazon.com/gp/goldbox/ref=cs_top_nav_gb27
Then click on 2:00 pm PST
All it says is: Get a widescreen, touchscreen portable GPS for less than $180!
It doesn't say what brand and model it is and won't say until it opens.
These deals are usually very good and worth watching. They tend to sell out quickly.

That was interesting
I had occasion to use one of the POI files downloaded from this site today and got a long winded (and humorous) surprise. I knew there was an Albertson's market in the area but not exactly where so punched up the custom Albertson's POI. I chose the nearest and was immediately rewarded with instructions to: "Albertsons 451-9825 15660 North Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard".

Good Practice and Safety
I copied all my Nuvi files over to my home computer just so I would have a backup for safety purposes. With creating folders for custom POI files, deleting the foreign languages, etc, I thought it was the prudent thing to do. I also keep my important computer data backed up online.
I was just wondering who else backs up their GPS and what other safety precautions do you take? Thanks

Subject field not required, Thank You
I just wanted to post a thank you for whoever changed the POI factory software to no longer say that a subject is required whenever responding to another post in a thread. It now will use the first few words of your post as a "subject" if none is provided.

POIEdit Question
When I open a gpx file in POIEdit, I only see Description, Lat and Lon. If the gpx file has additional information, I don't see it. When I save as csv, the additional info is gone. I can open up the original gpx file and see the additional info so know it's there, just can't see in POIEdit and won't save into csv format.

Anyone Had This Problem? (nuvi stopped working)
I was cruising down Hwy75 South, and my trusty 660 told me it had lost satellite reception. I was going about 65 mph and my little car just froze, and stopped in the of the road. It remained that way. After returning home I called Garmin Tech. Support, and they worked with it for about an hour. Still nothing. Finally the tech. told me I could send it in for repair, costing $250.

POI Factory recognizes its top contributors of 2008
When I researched the COY awards for this year, these are some of the facts and figures I looked at. I looked at many different things in addition to these numbers. I looked at the quality, time and energy put into each project and that is how I came to my decision of Motorcycle Mama and ScottK.
The following members had activity in each and every week of 2008:
John C
MrkenFL
Perrdom

Common sense tromps technology
An interesting article on cell phone use, texting, and using a GPS technology to block them while driving.
"Technology to stop phone use in cars flawed"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28735387/
A few quotes I found interesting form a safety expert.
"More and more, we see any solution is, in large part, education and awareness, parents getting involved."
Do you prefer 3.5 over widescreen?
Do you prefer the smaller 3.5" GPS units over the wide screen units?
Me I've always preferred something pocketable, and the 3.5" GPS units seem to fit much better in my pocket / bag / jacket, than the wide screen unit.
For some reason the widescreen just seems too big for my tastes.
