There are factory refurb Nuvi 660 models being sold on Ebay which do NOT have the expected FM transmitter. This may not be a big deal, since the transmitter is weak, and not very useful on many vehicles, but you should know before you buy. Some of the auction items neglect to mention this. Still, not a bad deal. I paid less than $150.
Also, Garmin claims they will not honor the refurb warranty for items sold on Ebay
Garmin stands behind Ebay sellers that are Garmin approved retailer, I have bought many units from Ebay and updated maps and used warranties. If the FM doesn't work t hen return the unit to the seller if he's not a Garmin retailers.
When buying from Ebay be sure to look that the seller is a Garmin approved retailer.
I bought my nuvi 660 through Amazon a little over one year ago. About two weeks ago the auto shutoff stopped working. I have to bring it in from the car to charge it almost every day due to staying on for long periods of time.
I contacted Garmin, they had me to a hard reset. Garmin told me that that would remove all of my data, which it did not. My favorites were still there.
The hard reset did not seem to fix the problem. I will call them back after the weekend. The unit is about 13 months old.
And make sure you check the feedback before you order from eBay.
Both the Garmin units I have were purchased from the same eBay seller. no problems with either, and Garmin updated the maps on both.
There is a store in Brooklyn, NY which advertises the transmitter with a refurbished Magelan Roadmate. They don't send the transmitter, or any installation cd's for the GPS. When you call, they say that the items may or may not be sent with the order because they don't inspect the boxed product before they ship it to you, and it's your problem, not theirs. Will ship back order and try for a refund. You get to the web site when you look at refurbished units on the Magellan site.
Thanks for the information!
