Uniden Home Patrol Scanner

Thought some of you might find this interesting. Uniden has just released a new type of scanner radio called HomePatrol. What's unique about this is it's not only capable of receiving all of the popular trunked radio systems used by fire, police, rescue, etc; BUT, it can be programmed for the area you are in simply by entering your zip code. The database can be kept updated via software interface AND an optional GPS receiver can be connected to it, that allows the current area to adjust the scanner to frequencies used in the area you are currently in. Check it out if it interests you ! So if you're traveling with it, it's always tuned to the frequencies in use around you. Only thing you'd have to verify is that, some states do not allow scanner use in vehicles, unless you're a licensed amateur radio operator and some, not at all. (www.homepatrol.com)

.

Interesting idea. If it is well executed and offered at a reasonable price I'd give it serious thought. Thanks for bringing it up.

How it Works

It is pricey.

Used to love to listen

My old scanner from the early 90's is almost silent now except for digital squeals. Thanks for posting as I may have to pick one up!

Very Interesting

Thanks for the info. Might have to get one is the price is not too much.

It sounds like a very nice

It sounds like a very nice upgrade to the old scanners I remember using. It is however illegal to use in a vehicle in New York State. It's also very expensive.

Not yet on the Market

Looks like it's still waiting for all of the approvals from the FCC, etc. No suggested price listed.

Looking for a place to go this summer? Try Oshkosh, WI, July 20-26, 2015. The largest gathering of aircraft in the world. http://www.airventure.org/index.html

Saw them availabe at

Saw them availabe at $485-$600.

Thanks

Thanks for the post.
Considering that back in the pre-digital-rf-comms day a good scanner went for $200 to $500 anyway, I'd say it's a good price. And that's just considering inflation surprised

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.

Home Patrol Scanner

Very pricey! Wait for it to come down - if it is a good as it's advertised then hopefully someone will offer it reduced for Black Friday sales.

Scanner use in NYS

If you hold a ham radio license you are allowed to use a scanning receiver in your vehicle.
