This week we’re recognizing, Mgarledge & Canuk!

I recently posted a thread about including more non-GPS topics in our forums. While we’ll always be a GPS and POI based site, we also recognize that we need to diversify a bit if we want to stick around for another 10+ years.

It will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Keeping The Windmill Alive - Your Last Trip? – December 2016

In danger of losing your windmill?

Maybe you can share the last place your GPS took you and if you encountered any problems, or if you used it to seek out special places to go (like Thai Food, ice cream shoppes, etc.).

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Smart Thermostats

Several years ago, Jonathan replaced the basic thermostat in our home with a nice programmable thermostat. At the time, Consumer Reports was recommending the Venstar ColorTouch, so we went with that. Over the first year he fine-tuned the program schedule, and since then it’s worked really well.

Avoid hitting a deer on the interstate

I was just wondering from fellow POI Factory members who live in states that have a lot of deer (New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia) if there are any known tricks in avoiding hitting a deer on the interstate in the evening/night.

I know the obvious – drive between sunrise & sunset but when you don't have a choice is there anything that can be done to decrease the odds ?

Holiday gift giving traditions.

Does your family have a holiday gift giving tradition?

In the chitchat thread someone mentioned getting their gift buying out of the way over the weekend, shopping for their kids, their kids spouses and the Grand kids.
I know some large families draw names each year to designate who gets who a gift and keep costs down.

Speed Camera Question

What legal agencies are responsible for enforcing violators?

When the alarm is triggered, I don't slow down. It seems to be very random.

Never got anything mailed to me.

Happy Thanksgiving (2016)

May you give thanks for your health and your family.

Additional subjects for discussion

I think we can all agree that one of the best things about POI Factory is the people who hang out here. Our recent discussion on “high mileage vehicles” got me to thinking about what other things might be fun to chat about with our group.

Black Friday/ Cyber Monday/ Holiday Deals (2016)

Thanksgiving and Black Friday are this week, so it's high time we get the yearly deals thread started for the holiday season!

Any great deals you find interesting and want to share are fair game. It's okay to go beyond GPS and to chat about items you hope to find.

This week we’re recognizing, Mahoney!

Mahoney is one of our POI file maintaining powerhouses!
I’ve lost track of how many files he maintains, but I do know he’s updated at least ten just in the last week!

Last year at this time we were trying to work on some glitches with the Rest Areas files and Mahoney stepped up to help straighten things out and maintain the files.

This week we’re recognizing Ralph6410 and Chickenhawks!

Both are Canadian members who’ve created school zone alert files for their cities. This is a lot of work, as each school usually requiring several different alert areas to cover their affected streets.
