Garmin talk

I know this has been battered back and forth but I just loaded the red light POI file to my unit. Even though the factory told me in an email that new POI's shouldn't eliminate the ones I already have loaded, sure enough they all disappeared. I loaded the Gettysburg with the Red light file and they are the only ones left under my custom POI's. Am I doing something wrong when I load the new files?

I've noticed that on the c340 there is a Vehicle mode.
Several different types are listed such as Taxi,
Car, Truck, ect.

Does anyone know what these different settings do.
Of course you would set it to the type of Vehicle
your driving but technically what does it do...

So I've had my first navigation unit for some time now. It's the garmin made Kenwood KNA-G510, I know the SD card will allow me to load POI files. But can the card do more? The manual says nothing about it.

Is there a certian type of sd card that I should have? I have an old 8mb sd card that fits in there but havn't tried anything yet.

Does anyone know where on the Nuvi 660 MY FAVORITES are stored? I have added numerous favorite locations, and I would like to be able to copy them and back them up. I have not benn able to locate them on the Nuvi. Thanks for any help!

I was trying to decide if I wanted to get a Handheld GPS unit. Are there any recommendations. I was looking at a few of the Hi-End Garmin ones.

I would have to research this which takes me a while to do. I think it took me about 2 months to research my 2720 I bought before I made up my mind to get it.

I have been looking for a GPS for a while now. Thanks to a lot of information from this site I was able to decide that the Garmin C330 lacked some of the functionality that I wanted. I have decided to go with the Garmin C530 instead.

Overall the Garmin C530 is a better unit for the following reasons:
SiRF Chip
Better Display
Comes with case
Smaller mount

NEED HELP

We've noticed a linebreak problem with the nuvi 350, and need to determine which Garmin GPS it affects, especially nuvi's. I'd like this information before I again approach Garmin about this issue.

I’ve posted an Iowa Rest Area POI. The admin was nice enough to include a ‘nuvi 350 modified POI' under "Attachments".

Here’s the scoop on the two files:
IA Rest Areas.csv: This is a standard 4 column POI file with a line break in the comments column after the colon (. This line break does not display with the nuvi 350.

_IA Rest Areas.csv (nuvi line breaks): This file is exactly like the previous file except the LF in the comments column is replaced with a HTML coded linebreak (<br>). This displays a line break after the colon with the nuvi 350.

Three questions:
1. Which Garmin GPS do you have?
2. Does the standard file display line breaks correctly?
3. How does the modified file display on your GPS?

(Try several POI's in each file to be sure the break is caused by the forced line break and not caused by word-wrap.)

I have a c330 as well and I can't for the life of me get it to work. I took a jpeg photo, resized it using infranview, opened it in Paint and saved it in a file as a .bmp 24 bit than went to the xImage and get an error that it can't copy images over.

However I can copy screen shots to the computer.

Has anyone purchased the European city navigator? Does it get installed into main memory, also?

Just wanted to see if a page was created yet for custom Splash Screens. I submitted mine but haven't seen it here or any others with the exception of the poi-factory.

Seeing the question about adding too many POI's (not having enough room), it made me wonder is there a way to delete the unused voices I downloaded?

I am interested in finding out (not by trial) if the City navigator map I got with my NUVI 660 can be loaded into my other Garmins (Etrex Vista and Rhino. Has anyone out there had any experience with this?

I just bought the Garmin C340. Downloaded all of the updated data from the Garmin website to my C340. (Yes, all of it....even all the different voice language updates. Maybe this was a boo boo) Then I went and started using the POI loader and started uploading POI's.

I got through about five of them, using some I found at another website...

I just purchased and loaded the Travel guide. Fodors North America appears under extras. However when I select it "No Data Found appears" It worked fine until I updated to Software Ver. 3.2.

Any ideas?

Hello everybody,
I've been driving with my c550 and noticed that there is Erskine st exit off belt pkwy in Brooklyn, NY, and it's not even on the map, the exit is relatively new, but it's been about 2-3 yrs, there is a huge mall with Circuit City, Target, Babies'r'US, etc, and it's not on garmin's map.

I never got the e-mail they usually send out, but I discovered this by accident. I am currently downloading the most recent release of Mapsource (not the beta).

The beta versions history shows that they are working on improving Mapsources ability to work with POI's, which is good news. But they seem to move slowly, which is bad news.

Here are a few of the bullet points:

When I open it on my laptop the little triangle indicating present position is located somewhere near the Canary Islands - I want to use it in simulated mode to plan routes for my C340. Is there a way to have it open on my defined home location - it always offers to let me simulate the drive from mid-ocean to Dublin, Ohio but that really isn't helpful!

Anyone know how to convert construction information and/or poi's from microsoft Streets and Trips to a garmin nuvi 350?

Has anyone tested what happens with these settings? I have not noticed a difference.

Navigation -> Vehicle

I am guessing that Truck and Bus have routes around low overpasses, and parkways, but what do Pedestrian, Bicycle, Emergency and Taxi do?

Voice Prompts -> Guidance Only versus Guidance/Status

I have not noticed a difference among the two.
