I have found the FM transmission option is less than appealing, though better than most the quality still leaves much to be desired.
I found that you can use a cassette adapter (like for XM radio or an iPod) to listen to MP3's, and hear people via Bluetooth. You need to set the device (mine being a 660) to FM transmitter mode, plug the male end into the headphone jack push the cassette in, and you are good to go (you can also hear your POI alerts).
