Daylight Savings Time

Hi, does anyone know if and when Garmin is going to post a fix for the new DST for the Nuvi 350? They seem to have some fixes for other Garmin's but have forgotten about the Nuvi 350. I have asked Garmin about this but have not received an email with regards to this yet.

Thanks

Time Change

Iceman I think all GPS umits will automatically change to the new time setting Mar 11 2007 because they are run by the satilight systems so they will upgrade the satilights

If this is true then why do

If this is true then why do they have updates for other Garmin units that deal with DST in North America? Other Nuvi's also have updates that specifically deal with this issue also. I'm a little confused about this.

I also had the same question and e-mailed Garmin regarding the issue. Still no answer back.

DST update - Nuvi660

I received an email from Garmin support last week regarding the issue and Nuvi 660 which told me that one would be released soon. Sounds like they are working on them all as I have noticed some recent updates to many different Garmin units.

DST Updating.

This is a good question ... I know that we need to update all the Workstation to reflect this .. Even tho the time/date is sent down via server. This will something to watch for.... We will know by the end of the week, thats for sure!!

Garmin Response

This is the email I got from Garmin.

Thank you for contacting Garmin:

That update may be available before the actual change, but if not, you can go into the settings menu > locale > time > hit OK, hit OK again > select ON. This will give you the correct time, and when the update becomes available, you can download that and reset your DST setting in the unit to AUTO.

Best regards,
Sean M.

So hopefully they will have an update soon.

DST

I am also awaiting an answer from Garmin. I wrote via email but will call this week.

This is the reply I finally received back:

"At this time the update hasn't been relased but please continue to check back as software updates come out multiple times per year."

- Not so helpful.

Time change

Iceman i got a hold of garmin and they e-mailed me with this and said as long as i got the sp2720 set to automatic it will change to the right time when the time changes for the new standard time here is what they sent

FROM GARMIN>GPS units operate on UTC time. UTC is the Universal Coordinated Time or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). You can input a local offset (or difference) from UTC so that the unit will display your local time. This option is located under the unit's operational setup. A chart is provided in products' owner's manuals to help you select the appropriate offset for your area. If needed, the chart will also show the UTC offset during daylight-saving periods. New Garmin GPS units allow you to select the time zone you are currently in or select a time zone for a projected location by selecting from one of eight U.S. time zones or 24 international time zones. You may also turn an adjustment for daylight saving to auto, on, or off.

DST updates

After looking through the release notes for the updates available on the Garmin site, it looks like unit software updated on or after Fenruary 15, 2007 includes the DST fix.

The StreetPilot c5xx series updates were all released Feb 5, 2007, and there is no mention of DST in their release notes.

Unit software updated after Feb 15 includes:
Edge 205
Edge 305
GPS 10
nuvi 310
nuvi 360
nuvi 370
StreetPilot 2720 GPS
StreetPilot 2730
StreetPilot 2820
StreetPilot 7200
StreetPilot 7500
StreetPilot i2
zumo 500
zumo 550

DST Updates

In my job, I am updating the Workstations with the DST patch and during my research I found that any devices, should they be Clocks, TVs, Gps systems, etc... Anything that requires the DST patch that was maide within the last 2yrs should have the patch.. That is what my resarch had come up with anyways, how true that is .. is any ones guess..

Guess we will just have to wait and see.. Just like Y2K time!!

DST Nuvi 660

I have updated to 3.5 and my Nuvi 660 is still showing an hour early. The Garmin site simply says to check the manual for this model. I see nothing in the manual that indicates how to update the unit. How do you update this thing??

Bill

My friend had the same

My friend had the same problem, until he reloaded the software twice.

I know that we posted yesterday about the earlier than normal arrival of Daylight Savings Time (DST) but I think it's a good idea to keep bringing it up. We are working on getting software updates for all of our GPS units so that they recognize Daylight Savings Time correctly but they are not all available as of yet. We are constantly going to be updating the list of units that have updates available here in our Support section.

Another way that you can check is just keep running the WebUpdater program with your device connected to the computer. When an update is available for your device, it will list the changes that have been made in that update. You can see there if the DST update is ready for your device.

In the meantime if your device does not have an update available, you can go into the settings for your device and turn DST to "On" so it shows the correct time. Click here to go to the Owner's Manual section of our website to find instructions to set the DST on your specific device.

I must be lucky I did not have any problem with my Nuvi 660 updating the time in auto mode. I have not drove out of my timezone yet so I don't know if it will stay correct or not.

The unit will stay corrected, BUT...

If you're expecting it to change the time to the new time zone based on your location...well, that's not going to happen. The time displayed on your GPS is like the average watch - adjusting for time zones is a user setting done manually.

Since Garmin hasn't updated (DST) software yet, maybe we can expect something spectacular from them. At least we can be hopeful! smile
