Custom POI File vs. MapSource Favorites with Garmin StreetPilot 2730

I have a Garmin StreetPilot 2730 and I use for work and pleasure trips. I am considering creating files for the apartmetn complexes that I drive to for work. I would like to have telephone number(s) and sometimes things like door codes that allow me to access to the building. Would I be better off creating these as MapSource Favorites or Custom POI Files? So far the advantage I see of doing it as MapSource Favorites is that I can edit from the device, but I am more limited by the number of characters of text. With Custom POIs I have more characters of test, but I can't edit from the device. Which way to you guys think would be better for this application and why? Are there any other considerations for this application?

Depending on how the 2730 behaves...

If the 2730 behaves the same as my C510, you might be able to hit the "SAVE" button while viewing a Custom POI and thus make a copy of it as a Favourite, should you ever need to. That way, you can have the best of both worlds - as you say, all that extra detail as a POI, and the ease of access as a Favourite. With the C510, that extra detail is just over 5000 characters, before it cries 'enough'. You can also tag an image on as well, but I don't know if the 2730 supports that.

Mapsource doesn't unlease the full potential of the Custom POI, so I have been writing myself a tool.I think it fits quite well with this sort of application.

The basic premise, is that you would capture the basic information, either by saving your current location, or doing a map lookup and would then import it into a .GPX file that already contains details of other similar locations. The program then lets you add the extra detail and re-save it.

I would be delighted if you would give me some feedback: The editor is at http://GeePeeEx.googlepages.com
