c550 lost icons/pics

One the problems with my c550 is after the last update the icons (bmp?) that I created no longer appear on the 550. Only a grey dot. Do you have that problem when using your program?

Deborah

A problem shared...

The C510/C530/C550 all share the same firmware and so, as of V5.2.0 they all suffer that same problem. We, the users of these devices noticed this phenomenon instantly and yet it wasn't spotted in Garmin's testing... which kind of implies it didn't get tested sad. This is one area where Garmin could improve and it's a shame, because other aspects of their support are so good.

One thing I found really odd, when I read the README for that last update, was how few changes there supposedly were - and yet it was a major revision number change i.e. 4.1.0 to 5.2.0

It becomes apparent the minute you load it, that it is massively different to the previous version. They were maybe so hung up on testing the new stuff (like the auto-zooming) that they forgot to test the existing stuff...

another problem

Another problem I've noticed, but I'm not sure if it was due to 5.2.0 or if it was a problem with 4.1.0
That's, while using the TourGuide with an image, or Hornbyp's program, you can zoom in but not out, lots of zoom + but no zoom -
I just can't verify that that problem existed in 4.1.0 or not.

Images and POI

Displaying images is totally weird - I think it's the proportions as much as anything that upsets it. Perhaps it's the bar at the bottom with the zoom controls that it's trying to allow for. The example on my website (in the sample .gpi) file is 318x287 and seems to display ok, but I can't remember how I arrived at that size. I do know, that keeping the proportions of 320x200, the image has to be HUGE to display full screen without zooming. POI Loader seems to copy the image as-is into the .GPI file.

it is weird

In my testing I've used a jpg that's 340x204 and have to hit the zoom bar about 4 times to fill the screen.
Another is 128x121 and have to hit the zoom bar 4 or 5 times to fill the screen. Even then, the proportions seem to remain fairly well intact, and not too distorted. I just can't use the zoom out bar to "un"zoom.
I'll have to play around somemore to see what size gets close to filling the screen w/o zoom +

Yet, the splash screen size is 320x240.

Like you said - Displaying images is totally weird

Icons show at wrong locations

I've got a c530 and also upgraded firmware a while back. I've been noticing lately that I have icons showing up in places that are totally wrong. For instance, as I was out driving today, I had an icon for IKEA and Circuit City show up and I live 250 miles away from either one of those. I also came to a redlight camera and had a Bed, Bath, and Beyond icon come up instead of a redlight camera. I don't remember having these problems before. Anyone else experiencing these problems? Do you think it's the firmware, 5.20? I'm at a loss. Thanks!

Another V5.2.0 bug

Oh yes - hadn't noticed that. I just tried re-installing V4.1.0 and sure enough, it wasn't a problem until V5.2.0 sad

BTW - I sent you an email.

Mixed up symbols

Yes, that's one of the other symptoms. One guy had 'pints of beer' appearing instead of speed cameras, which we both thought mildly amusing smile

It's worth noting that V4.1.0 had a bug that causes hangs and/or crashes, that is somehow related to 24bit .BMP files in POI's. V4.0.0 is a more stable fallback option.

POI icons with 5.2 update

I called the Garmin tech support and I told them the same thing happened to my icons after the 5.2 update. He tried the 5.2 and no icons then tried the 4.11 with the same POI file and the icon did show up on the map. He said they would look into the 5.2 glitch.
