Garmin talk

I'm a new 360 owner and after one day I love it, but am a little confused. I have 3 questions, regarding if I bought the right unit for me. Any and all input will be appreciated.

1) The 350 online manual says that unit has a "Find Better Route" feature. The more expensive 360 appears not to have this. Is it there and I'm just not finding it? It seems like this would be a great feature for GPS.

I was wondering what size of sd card should I buy, and is there a size limit or any recommendations for this unit.

I found a pretty good "hard sided" case for the Nuvi 350 at Target today. It isn't metal-like hard, but hard enough -- plus, it is lined on the inside with thick peices of foam on either side. The 350 fits in here PERFECTLY, but only if I take it out of it's original leather case. It seems pretty protected in there. If anyone is interested, you can find it at the target website here:

I recently downloaded several custom POI points, and cannot seem to locate them on my Nuvi 660 after they are downloaded. The Red Light and Speed Trap POI's show in the Custom POI section of the Extra's icon, but I cannot seem to locate the auto dealers and stores that I downloaded. Are these automatically placed in the pre-defined garmin folders under Food/Lodging?

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm in Portland, Oregon this weekend. The c530 has been great, except for a several mile stretch of I205, which runs North/South through a section of the southeast part of town.

In this area, the map refuses to update. It's almost like the map freezes up. I tried zooming in and out, which made the map go away entirely, replaced by a white screen that says "Drawing...".

Meanwhile, the voice directions, and the green bar along the top of the screen remain accurate. So the c530 definitely knows exactly where it is.

Set one to 500 feet the other day just to test the feature, and it worked at maybe 200 ft. So, based on that, set an entire file to alert at 5000 ft using POILoader, and none worked at all. Anybody know anything about MapSource, maybe that's what I need to make this entire file alert like it should? And I understood that alerts can be set for up to 38 miles, read that somewhere, but in POILoader my only option appears to be setting the alert distance in feet only.

First time to use,so someone have Red Light Enforcement Cameras file and can share with me ??

I am looking at getting the Nuvi 660 GPS unit. A budding of mine at work has a Magellan 760. He let me borrow it and I am not impressed. It takes 8 mins to lock onto the sats. I was reading, on the Garmin website that getting a unit with 12 channels will decrease the acquistion time. How many channels does the Nuvi 660 have? I also have been looking at the Street Pilot 7200 but, I don't think I need a 7" screen.

Does anyone know of a more accurate map legend for the garmin 660 other than their web site. I have noticed on my screen at certain times i have green and red dots, but when you put the cursor over the dot it doesn't give you a description. The only icon that matches are under the marine navaids( lighted navaid, green,red etc.) if so why are there marine icons on surface streets?

I just purchaced a 350 and was wondering if there was a way to load a route to it. I have loaded POIs with good success via a folder on my desktop. I have created a route in GOOGLE EARTH PLUS and saved it as a KML file to a folder on my desktop. I then used GPSBABEL to convert it to a Garmin mapsource (mps) file. How do I get this route to the NUVI and where do I put it? Furthermore, how do I view the route on the NUVI?

how can i download and store more than one poi subject? if i try to load say, red light enf cameras, and then download airports, the red light data vanishes...what should i do?

I am able to create a route with Mapsource v8, I can save it on the device (c530). Is there any way I can use it on the device once downloaded? If so, how? Is the route capability enabled on the c530.

I am trying the Easy GPS software that you can download for free, and it does include the Garmin c530 in the list of compatible GPS devices.

But the software doesn't seem to be interacting with the c530, even though I've correctly set it up according to the instructions.

I tried created a waypoint, and then tried to "send" it to the Garmin. When I do this, it wants to save a .gpx file to my computer. Since I actually want to send this file to the c530, I navigate my way to the Garmin, and click OK.

I had the Mapsource World Maps on the OLD GPS III+. Can that be loaded in a Nuvi?

I recently saw a post on Amazon that reads as follows...

"Since I already have a Garmin handheld GPS unit as well as Garmin's MapSource Topo mapping software, I used the unlock code that came with the c340 to unlock my MapSource maps for the unit. I then loaded the topo maps for the entire Western US onto an SD card (between 300-500 MB) and plugged it into the c340 to see what would happen. It worked! So now I have the c340's excellent built-in maps and POIs for on-road trips *and* Topo Maps available to me for off-road adventures."

I got a new nuvi350 on New Years day and just wanted to thank everyone here for all the info I have gleaned by lurking and reading this forum. I finally felt guilty enough to join up and maybe contribute a little bit.

Is there a way to find places by entering in the longitude and latitude? Is there a way to find the longitude/latitude of the place I'm at now?

I'm the type of person that reads through a forum and tries to answer my own question before adding a new thread. In one thread it was mentioned that when you put all of your POIs into a folder, then tell the POI loader what folder to load, it should allow you to set the alerts for your POIs. Mine did not allow me to set the alerts. How do I do this?

I received a nuvi 360 for Christmas and I am sooo happy for this forum. My question is this: I have downloaded MP3 files directly to the internal memory of my nuvi. I recently purchased a 2 GB SD card to download music onto. When I plug the USB cord into the computer, it recognizes the card, but I can't find the songs on the nuvi. Can anyone please help me with this?
