Garmin talk

Something I noticed this AM is that with this latest GE update, the schedule to have GE automatically check for updates has been reenabled in the Windows Task Scheduler. The event is scheduled to run at 2 AM, or when you turn your PC on in the morning, and indeed does as indicated by several log files which can be found at C:\ProgramData\Garmin\Logs\SelfUpdater.

Garmin Express Version 7.20.3.0 is now available. The release notes state:

Resolved computer install failures for universal maps.
Resolved an issue with third party maps failing to download.

From what I see on the Garmin Website, the latest and greatest Nuvi units are the Drivesmart 66, 76, 86.

Does anyone have any of these units and can comments on their happiness with them?

They seem to be nice, but the 7"and 8" screens may be a little big for my wife to carry around when she travels, but a bigger screen is easier to read.

Is it possible? It's a complicated question which I'll do my best to describe.

I often create files with long tracks and waypoints for use on topo, or other off road maps. For some time, I've looked for ways to make them routable.

I have 3 garmin gps's A 3597, 2797 and the newest Drivesmart 76. For at least a year maybe longer i tried to update the the 2 older 3597 & 2797 and got the excuse please install a memory card the one you are using does not work and it was new and supposed to work.Well this past weekend i tried again and wham bam all 3 updated to the latest maps.

I have a backup 3590 that I am trying to use.

But the screen orientation is stuck on Portrait mode. I flip and turn the unit all around, but it does not change.

Under the Display setting, there is no option on this 3590 to change to. Landscape.

Once again, I've done a factory reset and also tried selecting the Default/Restore setting.

I also did a complete factory reset.

I have a Nuvi 3590 LMT. It would keep showing that Power has been Lost, and shuts down.

I cleaned all of the connections as best I can. That didn't work.

I replaced the powered Mount. That didn't work.

I replaced the GTM60 power/traffic cable. That didn't work.

So I believe it's either the connector on the 3590 itself, it some sort of internal problem with the unit.

As posted above, is there any sort of pattern regrading when Garmin announces new automobile navigators? For example, it seems like certain products are announced at various trade shows. For example, consumer electronics are sometimes announced at the Consumer Electronics Show.

I'm new to this forum and Garmin in generel. I bought my first Garmin on Friday (so 2 days ago). I tried to test some addresses from different countries. What I found strange is that it shows different spellings/names for the same country.

So my questions to you experts are:

I was in Westchester County, NY the other day on the way to I-287 East from RT 9A. The GPS directions were to make a left onto the Sprain Brook Parkway South and then take I-287 East. I drove past a sign for the Sprain Brook Parkway South which was a right turn. The GPS told me to continue, and make the left turn up ahead. The left turn was the entrance ramp for the Sprain Brook Parkway North.

After this last GE update (17.20.1.0) I checked two things. In Garmin settings the setting "Launch Garmin Express when your computer starts up" was disabled, as I prefer it and how I have had it set in the past.

It should be noted that Garmin users into watches and fitness devices were having issues with version 7.20.0. Few if any problems with navigation devices have been reported here or at the Garmin forum.

Just installed Garmin Express 7.20.0.0 on my Mac.

CN EU 2025.10 NTU map just released.

So we had some snow with lots of icy road conditions. So all of a sudden on my Garmin dozens of icy road conditions show up as well as indications of slow traffic ahead due to slippery sections. This feature may have been there all along but I never noticed till yesterday. Cool

I hope there is some help available.

I deleted what I thought were duplicate files and now my Garmin 390LM is not allowing me to import GPX routes.

These files are within the MAP directory on the 390LM.

I need:

I mistakenly thought I had copied them prior to delete so I could replace them if there was a problem.

I'm wondering if anybody also has noticed that the Garmin database of speed camera had been not been updated for a long time. For me. I feel, at least half a year. My city installed many speed camera several months ago, and they became active a recently but I never got any alert from Garmin.

I saw this on eBay today [Garmin Nuvi 3597 (bad battery?)] for $28 (Buy it now) and $6 shipping. I suspect it may be worth taking a chance on at that price even though it is listed as a "not working, for parts only". It appears to me that all it probably needs is a good overnight charging up.

I'm pretty sure my Garmin device has the latest map, but my unit gives me a Map Update Notice and says "The following map data is more than a year old and should be updated: CN North America NT 2024.20" Any ideas how to fix this would be appreciated. Thank you.
