emissions test / wife's car

Around XMAS time, my wife's 2011 GM SUV had a check engine light.

I read the code with her cousin's reader, and reset. It was catalyst P0420. Actually that's not good because someone with the same car was looking at $1400 at the dealer.

Anyway, suffice it to say it never came back.

BUT, I know this from before--if I replace the car battery, the emissions won't be ready for 800+ miles.

oil filters.....details

I look at oil filters like dog food. Don't switch it, not really any reason to.

When I adopted my dog in 2002, I fed him ProPlan. A premium food, and I read the lab analysis. He ate it for 14 years. Also saw the price go from $27.99 on sale to over $63 1 year ago (no pet, just looked when in the store). Bag got smaller too.

Newby: Glad I found this POI-Factory

I am very surprised to find this site with all of its wealth of information. We bought a class "B" van last year and began traveling but found that most of the apps and websites were lacking in the amount of useful and accurate information available. They always left me wanting more convenience in "what's ahead" while traveling.

hitting a new threshold for gasoline purchase

To date, I have never paid $4/gal yet. And will do so this week.

The price rapidly escalated as I filled up last Thu. when regular was $3.459. The next day it was $3.729, by yesterday $3.92.

Why much of this is artificial.

When regular was $3.729, premium was $3.829. 10 cent delta.

When regular was in the low 2's, premium was routinely 30-60 cents more per gal.

Concerned about GLONASS??

My GPSMAP 64ST defaults to GPS plus GLONASS. If I wished to it is easy to set it to GPS only. RTM! When I did a very quick check with GPS plus GLONASS I had 13 satellites while GPS had 9.

My DriveSmart uses Galileo and GPS so no issues there. If there were an issue I couldn't find a way to turn Galileo off.

Fitbit recall of 1.7 million watches

So now 1.7 Million Fitbit watches are being recalled due to users being burned by overheating batteries. Overheating batteries were also a Garmin problem, if I remember correctly - but they were few and far between.

Details at:

Nothing seems safe anymore, it seems.

2/22/2022

I just took notice of today's date but then I realized it will be another 200 years before the date reads 2/22/2222 across the board.

By then I won't know nor care. Oh well. grin

ATM Card Shimming

I had an unpleasant experience this weekend. As I was getting ready for bed, I started to receive a bunch of text message alerts from my credit union advising me about ATM withdrawals using my debit card and then "denied transactions" when they reached my daily withdrawal limit. Thank God that I signed up for text messaging alerts with my ATM card.

shipping items seems unreliable now

I may be wrong, but I think I'm right.

In the old days (pre pandemic), things moved over the weekend, even though they were not delivered.

Much of it doesn't do anything on weekends it seems nowadays. Just sits.

meaning you ship Friday instead of Monday, you gain 1 business day. I believe in the past, you gained Sat and Sun by making the Friday pickup.
