What3words App

I am a fan of an app called “what3words” that generates 3 unique words for every 10 ft x 10 ft square plot of land in the world. It is used by many emergency service organizations in Canada and the US.

Instead of having to give a gps location such as -80.451506,43.416168 you give "windows.prop.remove" to the emergency service.

This link shows how it operates: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ievx-n5azJE

The following is the link that they refer to: https://uk.findme.w3w.co/

For best results, I suggest that you go to the Findme link using your cell phone, since you need to have location service. Also download the app itself, that’s available on Apple or Android phones.

Here are the US & Canadian Emergency Services using the app:

Interesting way to generate a master password

just don't use your home address. In my case with the home address, it generated three words of xxxxxxx.xxxxxx.xxxxxxx format. But to perhaps use the address I had 70 seventy years ago might generate something very secure, especially if I replace the periods with symbols like "&".

Great Idea for Passwords

That is a great idea. I would never have thought of that.

Use the local police station address. Just remember it's going to be a 10' X 10' square, so use a very specific spot, such the front door.

Seems more for rural areas

Just checking out the link and what l see is rural areas but no large cities using this.
For rural areas this makes sense.

I don’t find that the case at all, although I’ve only checked one address; 1501 Chestnut Street in downtown Philadelphia. The 3-word combo came up as “assets.caring.complains”.

Don't know about US, but in Canada I think better uptake.

Don't know about US, but in Canada I think better uptake. In Ontario, especially, there are many major emergency services using it, including the Ontario Provincial Police, Ottawa, Barrie, Waterloo Region, Kingston, London, to just name a few.

Out west, there's BC Emergency Health Services, North Vancouver RCMP, Surrey, Winnipeg etc.

I have learned that CAA is now starting to use it in some regions.

It's also a great way to find your car, in a big shopping plaza, LOL.

Hope this helps
