new & interesting places for your GPS

Welcome / open talk

Hertz Neverlost

Every so often I rent a car from Hertz and end up getting a Neverlost GPS in it. They are Magellan-based GPS systems from, what appears to be, 10 or so years ago. They pale in comparison to anything on the market today.

Alerts on Garmin Nuvi 3790 not working

Do I have to download the icon and alert files separately or are they included in the POI packages? I am new to this and when I try to enable the alerts on my GPS, it doesn't allow it. I am wondering if I am missing something. Anyone have ideas/help?

Handheld radar guns equipped with video cameras.

Probably somewhat unique to Texas but kind of interesting non the less.

I am going to Arizona!!

OK, so you say "Big deal, it's not me" LoL I will be there for almost a week, Sept 8 to the 14th. So I am looking for some help to find some good Poi's there. The car I rented will have unlimited miles, so I can drive where the interest Poi's are. SO can someone point the way? What should we see, besides the Grand Canyon? We will be staying in Phoenix. I appreciate the help.

How well do you know landmarks.

Sixteen satellite views are posted with multiple choice answers. It is a fun test. I missed two. I'm sure several people will get them all right.

I am not sure where we would be without you my friend. You are a super star.

Site Improvement Suggestion

A lot of the questions on POI-Factory revolve around 'when will the Numaps 2010.xx be released', or 'is firmware to fix my 7X5' released yet', etc, etc... I thought it might be a big help to have a centralized page here, looking something like this:

Garmin Numaps Current Version = 2011.20
Release Date = 10-Aug-2010

Garmin Nuvi 7X5 Current Version = 4.0

Garmin weather???

Maybe one day a weather feature will be available to know wether you are traveling into rain, snow,or sunshine!

How much information does your GPS store about where you have been?

Let's say your GPS gets into the "wrong hands" - some person(s) with ulterior motives to reconstruct where you have been after the fact.

Stuck in traffic in China for WEEKS

China's 60-mile traffic jam to last weeks

BEIJING — A massive traffic jam in northern China that hit its 10-day mark on Tuesday stems from road construction in Beijing that won't be finished until the middle of next month, an official said.

Bumper-to-bumper gridlock spanning 60 miles — with cars moving little more than a half-mile a day at one point...
