To preserve some battery life I've set the backlight timeout to 1 minute.
This works really great on long interstate stretches (especially at night): the screen is almost dark but still readable.

Anyone actually used this product? It is quite new (update from Que) and for the first time it no longer requires a garmin gps receiver and for only $99, I am quite interested and I'd like to see if anyone here has used it. I am currently using TomTom 6 on my PDA phone and this one looks very interesting and I'd like to know more about it....

Has anyone else noticed that the map scales disappeared after doing a software upgrade?

I upgraded my nüvi 2xx from 3.40 to 3.50 and the map scale indicator is no longer displayed on the map screen. It is now only displayed on the Map Orientation Selection Screen.

And each place had a Magellan rep. in the store hustling their line. I think it's a comfort to know that the Garmin name sells itself and doesn't have to be pushed to under informed buyers in the stores.

Just installed the update on my Nuvi 660. Thought my stupidity might save someone else a stroke. When I was ready to install, I put the DVD into my CD player drive. I have an older Compaq that has seperate drives for the CD player/burner and the DVD player. The CD player spun and stopped, no data found. I tried several times, and also attempted to use the "start" line on the computer.

I've loaded a 3rd party .gpx file onto my Nuvi 750 by placing it in the Garmin\GPX folder directly from my computer. It incorpotated it just fine, but now when I look up ANY POI, the .gpx file I loaded in shows ALL THE POI's in the .gpx file ALL THE TIME. The Nuvi then incorporated them into the "current.gpx" file.

Not really that big of a deal, but has anyone experienced this when "traveling" in simulation mode?

I put the destination in and somewhere down the road it just stops and the speed reading goes to zero. Weird... It doesn't do it consistently either in regards to time/distance.

I recently entered the GPSr world by purchasing a nuvi 750, so far I have not found any positive confirmation that the current POI loader application on the Garmin site is compatible with my unit .. anyone have a definitive answer based on experience ?

Looking for New York POI files can anyone help!

I have problem with POI files. I used POI loader to put the file "pio.gpi" on the unit. When I look at the file on the unit with Windows Explorer, I see it. But when I try to search the POI on the Garmin unit, there is no information. Why? Thank you.

I purchased a Street Pilot C580 in September, and have been lurking here off and on since then. There have been several posts concerning Map source. Some people have indicated that they paid Garmin $15 for the disk, others have indicated that they got it free when they said they needed it to manage their favorites.

I bought my 660 before the prices started plummeting. I bought it mostly for the traffic capabilities. This weekend, my traffic receiver was not working on the Route 1 corridor in/around Princeton NJ.

Does anyone out there have the 680 with MSN direct? If so how does MSN direct's traffic compare with the FM receiver?

I have noticed this a couple times on different trips. On a trip from Dayton, OH to Atlanta, GA, noticed that when I press the bar at the top of the display (which normally shows the next turn information) nothing happens!

I recently upgrade my Nuvi 680 with the new firware version 4.2. Now I occassionaly observe that the arrival time estimate is flipping every few seconds between what I believe is the correct calculation and another value that is off by a number of minutes from the correct value. I have seen it flipping between two values that are 20 minutes apart and flip values every 5-10 seconds.

It might be a stubbed question, but is there a way to get weather update in my Nuvi 760?

If anyone has a Kel Tec P32 or P3AT pistol, the useless nylon zippered case that comes with them has found a new use! It fits widescreen Nüvis perfectly! You can order them direct from Kel Tec and they are very inexpensive. And, if you want to look über dorky, the case has a belt loop, too.

I just purchased a Garmin Nuvi 200w and I have a question.

I know that they come with maps already loaded and you can update them yearly I believe
But at what cost?
