Custom POIs

Greetings from Lost Wages, NV... I'm a recent Nuvi addict and it looks like I found the treatment ward! So I'm sure 4,278 folks have already asked this so here I go stupid... Why don't Custom POIs show on screen at all times like Favorites? Thanks and I look forward to chatting with everyone!

wish they did

I wish there was a way to put custom poi's in with the rest of the POI's?

Is this possible??

Not that I am aware of.That

Not that I am aware of.That is the problem with custom POI'S a lot of them are already included in the internal POI'S which result in duplication. What would be really nice is that when you put in custom POI'S the GPS would only accept the ones that are new.

Thanks Ismonop

Thanks for answering! I see them when you look for them...but they don't show on the map at all times, like just driving by, like the Favs do... oh well, still having fun!

Making Custom POI's

I'm new at all this, so it might be a repeat, but I found http://www.poifriend.com ---once you sign up, its very easy to create a custom poi file, I mean really easy, just follow instructions, plug in the address and they find lat/long and automaticaly set it up. I'll be uploading one I did today on "Louisiana Plantations".

Making Custom POI's

I have run into the same thing. I am working on a cvs file for police stations and only have two in the file. I went by one and I saw my gif and got the alert. But when I went by the other - nothing. I ended up reloading the file and now I get both stations. I dont think I did any thing different.
I have a Zumo 550. I use 4 colloms in my cvs file and I have comments in the file. That should not make a difference.

Ok, I see what you're asking for now...You want to see the icon or symbol.

You can get a custom poi to show up if you use a custom bmp to go along with it.

custom poi's

I am doing something wrong here, I know.
I have downloaded some poi's
Run poi loader with my Nuvi 650 hooked upto the computer
It says the poi's are loaded, tryed both the garmin drive and my sd disk
Yet when i go to extras, the custom poi screen come up, the blue circle appears but I don't see any poi's.
The poi.gpi file does have a size to it.
What am I doing wrong?

not familiar with 650

But, if you get the Extras - Custom POI's Press the line that says Custom POI's see what happens.

that was it. I never touched that top header. Thanks

Display POIs all the time

I'm new to the Nuvi too, but I did find a solution for you.
Custom POIs get loaded to the Nuvi in the \Garmin\Poi folder by POI Loader. The directory \Garmin\gpx has another waypoint file named Current.gpx. That file contains waypoints that you manually save on your Nuvi. I edited the Current.gpx file, adding my custom waypoints and they show up when you drive by them. I used EasyGPS to edit the GPX file http://www.easygps.com/default.asp?rc=213pF .

The waypoints in Current.gpx also show up in my "Favorites".

Yup, you should be able to go to Extras | Custom POIs and clicking on it will bring up the custom POI filename that you imported. And if you check it out when connected to your PC, you will either see it under the Garmin\Poi directory named poi.gpi by default in your device or the SD card, depending where you chose to import to.
